摘要:
Unilateral pyelonephritis was induced in the rat and micropunture techniques were used to assess nephron function in individual nephrons from chronically diseased and normal kidneys in the same animals. Conventional clearances were performed simultaneously in the same kidneys. The clearance data indicated that the chronically diseased kidney of the rat, like that of the dog and man in a nonuremic environment, behaved in a predictable and organized manner. Analysis of data from micropuncture of the proximal tubules of individual nephrons from the chronically diseased kidneys indicated that salt and water reabsorption proceeded in a manner indistinguishable from that in nephrons of the contralateral control kidneys in the same animals. There was no evidence of intrinsic lesions affecting salt and water transport in the portions of the nephrons examined.

摘要:
Basement membrane prepared by ultrasonic vibration of isolated glomeruli was obtained from normal rats and from rats with anti-kidney serum nephrosis. The membrane was found to contain collagen, lipids, and at least two glycopeptides which were separable by chromatography on Seρhadex-G75 after removal of collagen by collagenase. Sialic acid was associated with collagen and with one of the glycopeptides. Acid hydrolysis released all the sialic acid in a dialyzable form. Neuraminidase released the same amount of sialic acid but only half was dialyzable, indicating that the remainder was not present in a terminal position. Nephrotic membrane contained less phospholipid and acetyl than normal, but the same amount of collagen, hexosamine and sialic acid. The sialic acid was liberated more readily by chemical hydrolysis, but less readily by neuraminidase than that of normal membrane; the collagen was also more readily degraded. It is concluded that in nephrosis, the amount of basement membrane material is not increased and that the membrane thickening seen microscopically, and the increased permeability, result from a change in organization at a molecular level

摘要:

摘要:
A case of acute phosphorus poisoning with hypocalcemia and hypophosphatemia with recovery is presented. The urinary calcium and phosphate excretion data–obtained when significant hypocalcemia and hypophosphatemia were present and considered in relation to the estimated oral intake and creatinine clearance–provided evidence for hypercalciuria and hyperphosphaturia. Other renal abnormalities included very slight aminoaciduria, pyuria, hematuria and proteinuria, transient azotemia, and occasional glycosuria when FBS ranged from 100–117 mg/100 ml in a patient with probable diabetes mellitus. The studies of urinary concentrating and acidifying mechanisms were consistent with preservation of these functions. These observations suggest that disturbance of proximal tubular function particularly may occur in acute phosphorus pois
