摘要:
A 36-year-old woman with liposuction-induced panniculitis was successfully treated with potassium iodide. She presented with painful, multiple, erythematous, subcutaneous, nodules on the thighs and shins which developed at the sites of cannula insertion after receiving lipectomy. Histologic examinations revealed granulomatous infiltration with a few foreign-body giant cells, fibrosis and inflammatory infiltrates mainly composed of lymphocytes and histiocytes in the septa of the subcutis. On polarizing microscopy, performed to rule out a foreign-body reaction, there were no foreign materials and no positivity on PAS staining. Since she developed unacceptable steroid toxicity, potassium iodide (800 mg/day) was given with good effect and tolerance. We conclude that potassium iodide can be used safely and effectively in the treatment of liposuction-induced panniculitis.

摘要:
Tinea faciei may be subdivided into tinea barbae and fungal infection at other facial sites. The correct diagnosis of tinea faciei should be established and the causative organism(s) sought. Successful treatment response is linked to concomitantly detecting and controlling the source of infection. Oral therapy is more likely to be needed in tinea barbae than in tinea infection at other sites of the face, since topical medications do not adequately pentrate terminal hair follicles. Our positive experience with terbinafine suggests that it may be an alternative therapy to griseofulvin and ketoconazole, which have been first-line therapies for this condition.

摘要:
This review describes 50 years of studies on the relationship between vitamin C and wound healing. Several early studies in animals reported a clear link between vitamin C depletion and impaired wound healing, shown later to be due to an effect on collagen synthesis. Further clinical studies found that supplementary vitamin C improves wound healing even in apparently vitamin C-replete individuals. Associations between vitamin C and pressure sore development, and healing of pre-existing pressure sores have been described, suggesting a therapeutic role for vitamin C supplementation. However, this would be complementary to current nursing and skin care strategies in patients with, or at risk of developing, pressure sores, such as those elderly patients admitted with femoral neck fractures, or paraplegic subjects.
