摘要:
AbstractElectrical conductivity studies on pure ammonium perchlorate, AP, and AP doped with sulphate ions have been carried out. The results indicate that the conduction is ionic in nature. Together with the observations made on the effect of electric field on the thermal decomposition of AP, the results of the present study establish that perchlorate ion is the major charge carrying species. The enthalpy for migration of defects has been found to be 0.8 eV, and the enthalpy for the formation of defects to be 1.2 eV.

AbstractPure sodium 2,4‐dinitrotoluene‐3‐sulfonate and ‐5‐sulfonate were prepared, and a procedure was developed for their extraction (as a mixture) from TNT purification waste water (‘red water’). Reactions of the sulfonates were studied, with special emphasis on possible direct and indirect methods for desulfonating them to 2,4‐DNT. Other reactions studied included reduction of one or both nitro groups, followed by desulfonation, yielding 2‐amino‐4‐nitrotoluene and 2,4‐diamino‐toluene, respectively, and replacement of the sulfonate group by chlorine, hydroxyl, and various substituted amino groups. AbstractThis study demonstrates that the pex portion of a typical 42° conically lined shaped charge is not being efficiently utilized. In fact, approximately 40% of the liner height at the apex end of the cone does not provide an efficient jet as far as penetration depth is concerned. In this paper, we present an experimental and theoretical study of the liner apex. First, a series of experiments were conducted in which liner apices were filled to various heights to inhibit the collapse of the apex portion of the liner. Next, a one‐dimensional analytical shaped charge model was used to simulate the filled cone experiments. From these experiments and calculations we have determined that approximately 30–40% of the cone height is used to produce a compact tip particle rather than a stretching jet. 摘要:
AbstractAsymmetries in the mass distribution of a projectile lead to rotational unbalance. A technique for determining this unbalance will be described. One must distinguish between static unbalance, where the centre of gravity does not lie on the axis of rotation, and dynamic unbalance, where the axis of rotation deviates from that of one of the principal moments of inertia. On firing, due to the spin of the projectile, both kinds of unbalance lead to a bending of the barrel. This is calculated using a simple theoretical model and measured values of moments of inertia and unbalance.
