AbstractShaped‐charge principles, including analytical work, computer‐code simulations, and experimental results, are reviewed. It is assumed that the reader has a basic understanding of the functioning of shaped charges, and emphasizes developments in recent years. The survey is divided into four sections: Liner Collapse, Jet Formation, Jet Breakup, and Target Penetration. AbstractSince 1950, LSEV (Explosives Substances Laboratory of Verneuil) belonging to CERCHAR (Centre d'Etudes et Recherches de Charbonnages de France) is in charge of official testing of explosives for use in gassy or dusty coal mines. Working at LSEV, the authors first give a survey of the history and philosophy of permitted explosives in France. Then they describe the actual classification and testing methods of these explosives.
