摘要:
A sea‐cow butchery site from the fourth and fifth millenia was discovered on Akab island in Umm al‐Qaiwain (United Arab Emirates). The remains of these Sirenians are extremely numerous and mixed with fish bones, marine shells and archaeological material, namely notched net‐sinking pebbles, pebbles used as hammerstones for shell crushing, a large bone awl, some flint artifacts (including a carved flake and a core), numerous discoid shell beads, and an important sample of rod‐shaped shell and soapstone objects of unknown f

摘要:
This brief note reports on the discovery of a prehistoric site near the coast of Ajman (United Arab Emirates), with lithics and ceramics which should probably be dated to the fifth millennium BC. Although small, the site nonetheless takes its place alongside a growing number of prehistoric points of habitation on the southern Gulf coast which attest to contact with‘Ubaid Mesopotami

摘要:
Three contributions in this issue are concerned with sites along the west coast of the United Arab Emirates which pre‐date the Bronze Age. In this paper we shall attempt to view these sites in the broader geographical context of the southern Gulf coast; and thereafter to consider (1) the lithic material attested in the Arabian peninsula and dated to between the late 6th and early 4th millennium B.C.; (2) the painted pottery comparable to Mesopotamian Ubaid wares; and (3) a dozen CI4 dates (1) run on shell which all range around 6000‐4500 BR The material utilized here comes from a series of expeditions conducted by the French Missions to Sharjah and Umm al‐Qaiwain between 1985 and 1990 (2). The objectives of our geomorphological and archaeological inquiries were to observe, within a restricted area, the remains and evolution of human occupation in a changing enviro

摘要:
Preliminary results are presented of the first season's excavations at Saar, Bahrain, by the London‐Bahrain Archaeological Expedition. Saar is a single‐period settlement dating to the early part of the second millennium BC. A short introduction to the history of excavation at Saar is followed by an account of the 1990 excavations in the temple area and in three areas of town housing. The main pottery types are discussed and some general conclusions then drawn about the settlem

摘要:
Ties between the Nabataean area of northwestern Arabia and southern Palestine, and the northeastern portion of the Arabian peninsula have been discussed for some years. The material evidence of such ties is meagre, but nonetheless important. Two Nabataean coins from Thaj and one from Qatif are presented here, along with a painted Nabataean sherd from Thaj. Their implications are treated briefly.
