摘要:
This article presents evidence from a case study of a particular state-owned, or public, enterprise in Singapore. The case history, together with the final analysis, attempts to ascertain any intrinsic advantages, disadvantages, or other differences in behavior and performance vis-à-vis private enterprise in the international petrochemicals business. The formation and progress of the Petrochemical Corporation of Singapore illustrate the competence of the Singapore government team and the value of the promotional, supportive presence of the government with regard to its enterprises. Organizational “culture” in public enterprise was enhanced by the role of the Singapore government.

Electrical energy consumption in the eastern province of Saudi Arabia is modeled as a function of weather data, global solar radiation, population, and gross domestic product per capita. Fine years of data have been used to develop the energy consumption model. Variable selection in the regression model is carried out by using the general stepping-regression technique. Model adequacy is determined from a residual analysis technique. Model validation aims to determine if the model will function successfully in its intended operating field. In this regard, new energy consumption data for a sixth year are collected, and the results predicted by the regression model are compared with the new data set. Finally, the sensitivity of the model is examined. It is found that the model is strongly influenced by the ambient temperature.

The future of coal, the only energy resource encountered in Greece's mineral reserves in large quantities, is examined with respect to future needs in electricity. Assuming an annual increment of 3% in electricity demands over the next 30 years, it is calculated that 83,320 GWh will be required by the year 2024. If coal is to satisfy roughly 70% of these needs, then a total of 2384 million tons must be mined. For coal to continue to play a role in safeguarding Greece's energy independence after the year 2024, further exploration should continue unimpeded, new and improved mining methods must be applied, beneficiation methods must be implemented immediately in order to use deposits where calorific values are marginal owing to high ash content, and underground mining must be initiated. Finally, co-processing of lignites encountered in small deposits, with organic wastes, such as by-products from agricultural industries must be promoted.

The characteristics of the experimental ejector in a steam refrigeration system were studied over a range of evaporator temperatures from 5 to 15°C, boiler temperatures from 95 to 135°C, and condenser pressures from 23.37 to 53.18 mbar (i.e., condenser temperatures from 20 to 34°C). It was shown that when increasing the boiler temperature, the entrainment ratio first increased and then decreased. Optimum boiler temperatures existed for each primary nozzle. The choking phenomena in secondary flow play an important role in ejector performance, causing the so-called “constant capacity” for the system. The entrainment ratio increased rapidly as evaporator temperature was raised, making it economical to run the system at high evaporator temperatures. Furthermore, an ejector performance map was derived from the experimental data for analyzing the optimum operation control of the system.

摘要:
Oil shale deposits constitute a large reserve of oil stocks. These immense deposits can potentially be used most conveniently as a source of middle distillate fuels such as jet fuel. The characteristic of the jet fuel distillation cut is a high n-alkane content. Jet fuels require a large n-alkane fraction in order to simultaneously meet both the freezing point and flash point requirements. The conditions reported in this study mimic the refining process known as delayed coking. This study focuses on a method for the rapid determination of the middle distillate fuel potential of shale-derived fuels.

摘要:
The results are presented from an investigation into the potential application for cool storage air-conditioning, and the resultant beneficial impact on power system operation in Thailand is discussed. Field assessment through interviews with decision makers in the identified customer groups produces results that show good potential for cool storage application. Results from a computer program used to calculate power production cost and other characteristics show that substantial benefits would also accrue to the generating utility.

A theoretical analysis is presented of heat engines that use the atmosphere as a hot reservoir and a cryogenic medium as a cold reservoir. These “cryogenic” heat engines can be used as zero emission power sources and are found to have unexpectedly large specific work (work per unit mass of the cold reservoir) values when gases of low atomic mass are used as the cryogenic medium.

This article describes an approach for optimal emission power dispatch from thermal power plants with optimal operating cost. The proposed approach, called economic-emission dispatch, is based on a λ-iteration technique including penalty on emissions. Sample case studies with a system of three generating units are discussed.
