摘要:
This paper looks at the nature and the length of the impact that prices and economic activity have on the demand for motor gasoline and distillate fuel oil in the United States. A general approach is presented and implemented to aid any energy analyst in gaining insights into the modeling activity. The results suggest that price changes affect the quantity demanded of motor gasoline and distillate fuel oil for as long as 2 years after an initial change while changing personal income has an impact for about 1 year.

摘要:
The applicability of the proton-induced X-ray emission (PIXE) method to determination of the elemental composition of short-rotation willow is studied. The analysis samples were taken as a time series from different willow stands. The concentrations of 15 elements between aluminum and lead were determined, and the implications of certain correlations between two distinct groups of elements are considered. The elemental composition of gases from willow combustion was also tentatively measured by PIXE. Nutrient dynamics and growth of willow seedlings were in addition studied by this technique and a simple simulation model was developed to depict the nutrient dynamics in willow leaves.

The chemistry of Indian spent sulfite liquor and methods to isolate sodium lignosulfonates from it have been discussed earlier. It has been observed experimentally that spent sulfite liquor as such is not an effective oil-well drilling fluid additive. Although its sodium Hgnosulfonate derivatives exhibited some effectivity, they were not thermostable.

Bitumen is currently separated from Athabascatar sands using a hot-water flotation process. This process gives a good yield of bitumen but produces aqueous sludge which is a major environmental problem. In recent years, both solvent extraction and direct coking have been examined as alternative separation techniques which do not inherently produce aqueous tailings. The purpose of this paper is to compare solvent extraction with direct coking in terms of energy efficiency. This study can help guide future research and development efforts.

摘要:
Zeolites found in the Neogene sediments in north-ern Japan show a vertical zonal arrangement. The zeolite zones are formed primarily by maximum temperature during burial diagenesis. The effect of geological reaction time on transformation temperature to progress in the zeolitization was studied at eight deeply drilled wells in oil-producing areas of Japan. The strata in these wells have continuously deposited under marine environments until recent time and reach geologically maximum burial depth.

摘要:
The effect of adding residues obtained under various processing conditions to asphalt cements has been investigated. Results show that from 8 to 14 wt % of a process residue can be blended with asphalt cement to produce an asphalt blend of 85-100 penetration. The amount of process residues that can be added increases with decreasing severity of processing conditions. Asphalt properties have been correlated in terms of composition (saturates, aromatics, resins, and asphaltenes) as well as average molecular weight of the asphaltenes and maltenes determined by gel permeation chromatography. The results are compared with two virgin asphalt cements.

摘要:
Extensive research work has been conducted by the writers on the effects of barite, thinners, and fiocculants (in various concentrations) on freshwater bentonite muds. The PV-----versus-VP----curves were used to evaluate these effects. Definite, characteristic regularities were observed. Experiments have also been performed on salt-saturated atta-pulgite (Zeogel) muds on addition of various concentrations of pregelatinized starch and carboxymethylcellulose. The results were evaluated in terms of slope and location of PV----versus-yp lines. The yp/PKratio (i.e., slope of the PK----versus-yp line) is a significant indicator of drilling fluid condition. The P K---versus-yP curves can be used for evaluating the stability of drilling fluids. They can also serve as guidelines in the field control of the drilling fluid systems and in taking timely actions.

摘要:
The purpose of this work was to observe the effect of potassium permanganate oxidation of lignites from Elbistan for end use as fertilizers, after being ammoniated. The experiments at each stage were designed by a 1/2× x full factorial design. The oxidation was carried out by three different methods. In the first two methods potassium permanganate in neutral or basic medium was used. In the other method two stages of oxidation were used: nitric acid followed by potassium permanganate in acidic medium. The latter proved to be more successful.
