There is no energy crisis. A crisis exists when an emergency forces a major shift from one course of action to another. We face instead a dilemma; we must make choices between alternatives with unforeseeable consequences. Changes in the nation's usage of energy are considered unlikely. We have to modify and improve our present energy systems and develop alternatives for major shifts over the longer term. New technology can provide a range of alternatives in the effective use of fossil-fuel reserves. Probably the most important resources are coal and oil, in that order. Geothermal energy is an additional energy source. Short-term energy conservation efforts cannot significantly improve the situation, but a concerted effort could limit immediate demands for growth. In sum, management of our energy resources to meet the nation's needs requires not the resolution of crises but the careful evaluation of all aspects of these problems.

摘要:
Energy derived from nuclear sources can be utilized either in the form of high-energy radiation, thermal energy or electrical energy. Each of these energy forms can be employed to produce non-fossil chemical fuels by transformation of available non-fossil substances. As a general definition, available non-fossil fuel substances are all resources other than coal, petroleum, or natural gas. Thus the substances that can serve as raw materials for nuclear-energy conversion to non-fossil chemical fuels are basically the substances found in water, air, and minerals.

摘要:
Various coal-gasification processes for pipeline-gas production are studied to select those processes which offer some future possibility and attractiveness for commercial development. The gasification processes are mathematically simulated and evaluated, using a methodology of system analyses which optimizes the operating and design criteria of each process alternative with regard to lowest cost or highest energy-utilization efficiency. In using systems methodology, a generalized method of economic comparison is established and problems of fundamental importance are identified.

摘要:
Laboratory experiments using a model to simulate a fracture-matrix-type reservoir indicate a relationship between rate of water injection and rate of imbibition. Under conditions of linear countercurrent flow, increased rate of water injection resulted in increased imbibition rates and greater indicated ultimate recovery. The correlation between water-injection rate and imbibition appears to be well denned. The effects of temperature and the condition of the sand face exposed to imbibition were evaluated.

摘要:
For both gasification and liquefaction of raw fuels into end end fuels, the chemical structure of various stages conversion is of great importance. Variations in the process design as well as the variables of a given process can be correlated with the structural parameters of fuels. Even within a given type of raw fuel, large differences occur. Optimization of the conversion process to the best end fuel should be considered (intrafuel optimization). Furthermore, it is advantageous to refine a combination of two types of raw fuels (interfuel combinations). Economics should always be relayed directly to the chemical structures of the raw fuels, whether to separation and extraction or to the environment. New in situ and biochemical recoveries should be sought. Further extension to the existing resources based on chemical knowledge could be explored.
