摘要:
This study examined the interrater reliability of multiple, experienced raters on the Cross Motor Scale of the Peabody Developmental Motor Scales (PD-GMS). The Cross Motor Scale was administered to 33 children ages 4 and 5 years. One third were children without known delays and two thirds were children with identified delays who were enrolled in a public special education preschool. There were a total of 12 raters, three each in four rater groups. For data analysis, groups were pooled according to the number of children rated in each of the four groups. The intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) statistic was used to examine interrater reliability based on total scores. For the one group of children without delay the ICC wasr= 0.94. The ICC values for the two pooled groups of children with delay were: group A,r= 0.84, and group B,r= 0.93. These results indicated good reliability and no appreciable variance due to differences among therapists. The results suggest that the PD-GMS includes enough items so that the differences in total scores obtained independently by multiple experienced raters was minimal.

摘要:
Studies suggest that adaptive positioning improves the performance of children with neuromotor impairment in areas such as speech intelligibility, upper extremity function, head control, and pulmonary function. The purpose of this study was to evaluate whether positioning in therapist-recommended adaptive equipment could improve a child's performance on psychological test scores when compared with testing done without equipment. Twelve children, 17 to 58 months of age, with a diagnosis of spastic quadriplegia or diplegia, comprised the subjects for this study. After selection of the best supporting adaptive equipment, theBayley Scales of Infant Developmentwere administered with and without adaptive equipment by a certified psychologist. A two-period crossover design showed statistically significantly higher test scores during positioned trials. During 67% of the testing situations, the child's ability to perform fine motor tasks improved so the child was able to complete one or more of the tasks they were unable to do without positioning. Adaptive positioning seems to have a positive impact on test performance. The extent, significance, and limitations of adaptive positioning will be discussed.

摘要:
The primary purpose of this study was to evaluate changes in the frequency of publication of pediatric physical therapy research articles over a 13-year period. A secondary purpose was to examine changes in the frequency of publication of research articles in Physical Therapy. Publications from three 2-year periods—1975 to 1976, 1981 to 1982, and 1987 to 1988—were compared. Articles inPhysical Therapy, Developmental Medicine and Child Neurology, Pediatrics, Journal of Pediatrics, Pediatric Research, American Journal of Diseases of Children, and Physical and Occupational Therapy in Pediatricswere considered for this study. Three emerging trends were identified. First, from 1975 to 1988 there was an increase in the absolute number of research articles with a pediatric focus published inPhysical Therapy. Second, pediatric physical therapists are publishing a greater number of research articles inDevelopmental Medicine and Child Neurologyand are beginning to publish research articles inAmerican Journal of Diseases of ChildrenandPediatrics. And third, there have been increases both in the absolute number of research articles in general and in the proportion of research articles published inPhysical Therapy.
