摘要:
Permeabilities are transfer coefficients in flow of fluids through membranes. In the case of gaseous diffusion there is normally very little, if any, interaction of the permeating components. Thus the separation of gas or vapor mixtures by means of membranes can easily be predicted when appropriate transfer coefficients of the pure components are known. The utility of a comprehensive collection of such permeabilities is therefore self-evident.

摘要:
The response of laminated membranes to permeation was investigated using simple permeation equations. The intrinsic permeability constant of the membrane was shown to be between the maximum or minimum intrinsic permeability constant of all component membranes. Thus the separation factor of the laminated membrane for any type of permeating molecules will be between the values of maximum and minimum separation factors of the component membranes. Permeation through the laminated membrane for a given species will depend on the direction of permeation if the intrinsic permeability constant of any permeating molecule is dependent on the concentration. A simple example for the concentration dependence of permeability constant shows the limits of anisotropic flow ratio.

摘要:
The chromatographic behavior of copper(II) chelates differing in the arrangement of their alkyl chains is influenced by the steric hindrance at the copper(II) site. This hindrance prevents the solvent molecules from coordinating on the remaining coordination positions, and thus RFvalues of chelates decrease with increasing compression at the copper(II) site.

摘要:
Selection criteria are reviewed for choosing the most promising methods of separation for accomplishing a given separation of chemical components. The degree of separation attainable is governed by the separation factor, which in turn is related to molecular or ionic properties. Various separation processes are contrasted with regard to general desirablilty of using them, both on an industrial scale and on a laboratory scale. Heuristic rules for synthesizing sequences of separations to create multiple products are also considered. Criteria which have proven useful for generating separation sequences on an industrial processing scale are contrasted with those which may be useful for choosing sequences of separation steps in the laboratory.

The removal of phenol and other weakly ionized acids and bases from waste water is described when using the liquid membrane emulsion technique. Mathematical relationships are derived for the theoretical distribution and for the rate of permeation of phenol into the emulsion.
