摘要:
The integrated approach of process synthesis and design has been applied to determine the optimal-suboptimal configuration and design parameters of a flotation circuit for separation of mineral species. Mean residence time of parti-culate species in each cell is the design parameter to be optimized, which along with the optimal structure is extracted simultaneously from a generalized circuit by direct search. The validity of the method has been demonstrated by comparing results obtained by using this method with real optimal structure and parameter values obtained by optimizing all feasible structures, enumerated one at a time, for the case of a two cell circuit using two different objective functions of recovery, grade, and profit. The method is then extended to more realistic four cell circuit and feed comprising valuable mineral, gangue, and middlings.

Gas mixture separation characteristics of aqueous surfactant films were studied. Permeation constants of carbon dioxide, oxygen, nitrogen, helium, and propane through aqueous films of 2 wt% Ivory Liquid and of 2 wt% Duponol WN were determined. Binary gas mixtures of carbon dioxide-nitrogen and carbon dioxide-propane were enriched in one of the components using a thermally induced driving force.

The effective free diameter of the parallel, nonintersecting channel system of offretite has been modified in various ways using synthetic crystals initially containing K and tetramethylammonium (TMA) ions. Objectives were to optimize the openness of the channels and to produce sorbents having regulated molecule sieving properties. Removing all TMA from the wide, parallel channels by exchange and enriching the crystals in Li, Na, K, or Cs yielded open sorbents which sorbed n-hexane very rapidly and which differed only marginally in rapid rates of uptake of 2,2–dimethylbutane. Removal of all TMA from gmelinite cages and wide channels by heating in air or oxygen also yielded open M,K,H-offretites (where M = Li, Na, K, or Cs). However, the sieve behavior and capacity were further modified according to the temperature and number of oxidative treatments. Crystals enriched in methyl-, dimethyl-, and trimethylammonium sorbed n-hexane at rates which differed inter se. Small amounts of TMA in the wide channels also strongly influenced the kinetics of sorption of n-hexane and large amounts prevented any uptake at all.

Continuous foam fractionation experiments in one equilibrium stage were performed using ethylhexadecyldimethylammonium bromide and potassium dihydrogen phosphate. The pH of the solution was maintained at 5.4 at which only H2PO4- was present. The effects of surfactant and phosphate concentrations and liquid and gas flow rates on the percent stripping of phosphate and the distribution factor of phosphate were studied. Equilibria between surface and bulk liquid phases were found to be adequate to explain the inverse relationship between the distribution factor of phosphate and the phosphate and surfactant concentrations.

A New Type of Continuous Countercurrent Extraction: An Extractor with Two Continuous Phases |

A continuous countercurrent extractor in which both solvent phases move as continuous streams was constructed and studied. Fibrous strands, e.g., cotton-rayon yarn, were utilized as “wall-less” tubings for the hydrophilic solvent (heavy phase) and the light phase mov d in a countercurrent manner through the annular spaces of the column. With the model system, caffeine-water-ethyl acetate, the highest efficiency demonstrated was HETS = 1.1 in. A mixture of caffeine and nicotinamide (β = 4) can be separated to a purity of 4000:1 or higher in the solvent system of ethyl acetate: water by the use of a specially designed feed stage located at the middle of the column. A colorful demonstration of this process utilized two dyes, Sudan black B (purple) and p-phenylazophenol (yellow) in the solvent system of toluene:n-hexane (1:3) vs methanol: water (4:1). The extractor is free of emulsion problems as demonstrated by the inclusion of Tween 80 in the heavy phase of the ethyl acetate-water system. The extractor can be run unattended indefinitely.

Separation of rhenium(VII) from molybdenum, vanadium, chromium, tungsten, iron, cobalt, nickel, copper, manganese, iridium, ruthenium, and uranium is achieved by solvent extraction with 4-methyl-2-pentanol either from sulfuric or hydrochloric acid media. Rhenium is determined directly in the organic phase as its thiocyanate complex at 430 nm. The method is shown to be applicable to synthetic mixtures and alloy steel.

摘要:
A very simple procedure for the radiochemical separation of carrier-free RaE (210B) from RaD (210Pb) has been developed. RaE as sulfate was adsorbed in powdered alumina column, which was later quantitatively washed out with hot cone HNO3. The radiochemical purity of RaE had been proved by studying the β-decay half-life of the isotope.

摘要:
Quantitative extraction of calcium and magnesium in high molecular weight carboxylic acid, versatic-9, and amine systems is reported. Butanol was used as diluent. The study includes the extraction behavior as a function of pH by controlled addition of amines, such as monoethanol amine, diethanol amine, and triethanol amine, the effect of diluent, solvent concentration, and different high molecular carboxylic acids such as versatic-10, versatic-911, and SRS-100. A comparison with the β-diketone-buffer-extraction system and versatic-9-buffer system has also been studied. The proposed method is very simple, and quantitative extraction has been achieved.
