摘要:
Mesityl oxide (4-methyl-3-pentene-2-one) has been used for the solvent extraction studies of some transition metals such as Th, Zr, U, Pd, Pt, V, Cr, Mo, W, Re, Fe, Au, and Ga. In the present article optimum conditions for the extraction of the above metals have been given based on a critical survey of the relevant factors such as the effect of acid concentration, reagent concentration, salting-out agent, period of extraction, and diverse ions. The mechanism underlying these extractions is also discussed. The mesityl oxide has proved to be an excellent extractant as it provides clean-cut separation of a large number of ions in minimum time.

Experimental studies have been carried out on the foam separation of I−, HCrO4−, S2O32−, and Ag(S2O3)23−using a cationic surfactant as the collector-frother. The object of the work is the establishment of the Stoichiometry of the foam-separated surfactant cation-anion product to gain some insight into the mode of interaction between the surfactant and the anion. The Stoichiometry, S, defined as the ratio of the rate of surfactant removal to the rate of anion (colligend) removal at the gas bubble interfaces, ranges from 2.2–2.8 mole/mole (average values) for S2O32−, being a function of foaming time for the only system which does not involve the formation of particulates between the surfactant and the colligend. For HCrO4−, I−, and Ag(S2O3)23−, S is constant with foaming time and a participate product is formed in the bulk solution and/or the froth. For HCrO4-, S is close to unity and is almost independent of the feed surfactant/colligend ratio, indicating minimum free surfactant. For I-, S averages 1.3 and is a weak function of the feed ratio, indicating that free surfactant is significant. Steric effects or secondary adsorption or exchange of Ag(S2O3)23−the particulates makes S a linear function of the feed ratio.

摘要:
With water as the solvent and two azo dyes as the exemplary solutes, the modification of selectivity through pressure-induced changes in column equilibria has been shown to be significant using a chromatograph capable of going to 4000 kg/cm2. Data from high-pressure conductance, spectroscopy, adsorption chromatography, and steric-exclusion chromatography indicated that the primary contribution to the pressure shifts in selectivity was occurring in the bulk solution. An explanation correlating the various experimental observations is offered.

A study of the variation of the distribution coefficients of thenoyltrifluoro-tone (HTTA) and Sm with time has been made in the synergistic system kerosine/HTTA/tributylphosphate (TBP)/dilute HNO3. The results indicate that the phenomena of antagonism or antisynergism which takes place at TBP concentrations above 0.1 M is due to the large reduction of the free HTTA-enol in the organic phase and to a much lesser extent to the reduction of the free TBP concentration in the same phase through the formation of HTTA-H2O and HTTA-H2O-TBP, respectively. Equations which allow calculation of the free HTTA-enol and free TBP are developed.

Relative exchange capacities of stannic phosphate papers have been studied at varying percentages of stannic chloride (As). A straight line is obtained when [(1 /RF)−1] is plotted against As. Chromatograms developed at different temperatures show a slight increase in RFvalues on increasing the temperature.

摘要:
An efficient and simple method is presented for the radiochemical separation of95Zr from95Nb in a carrier-free state.95Zr is desorbed quantitatively from the MnO2column using a 3 M HNO3+ 0.05 M HF solution. By following the recommended procedure, a decontamination factor higher than 105is achieved. The radionuclidic purity of the separated95Zr has been ascertained by gamma-ray energy measurements as well as by a radiochemical method. The entire procedure takes less than 20 min.
