摘要:
The Clusius-Dickel (CD) technique couples thermal diffusion to a counter-current, natural convective flow to effect separation of molecules of different molecular weights or shapes in liquid or gaseous solutions. Materials separable by the technique include: aqueous biological solutions, isotopes in both gas and liquid states, aqueous solutions of both ionized and un-ionized materials, organic solutions, liquid metallic solutions, fused salt solutions, and gas mixtures including ortho and para-hydrogen.

摘要:
The theory of batch gravity thickening of an initially free-settling slurry is considered, taking into account the momentum-balance relationships for the system. It is concluded that graded-concentration zones which develop during the process must lie in the compression concentration range; retarding forces necessary to produce increase in concentration are not present in free settling.

摘要:
The theory of steady-state, continuous thickening in the free-settling concentration range is considered, taking into account the momentum balance relation governing the process. It is concluded that there is no solids capacity limitation associated with the free-settling portion of the thickening zone.

摘要:
When a mixture of rare earths, thorium, and uranium at pH 1.0 in sulfate medium is passed through a column (1.5 × 12 cm) of Dowex A-1(H+), rare earths pass through. Then thorium is eluted with 6Nhydrochloric acid and subsequently the uranium with 2Nnitric acid. When the mixture at pH 2.0 in nitrate medium and in the presence of 1,10-phenanthroline is fed to a column of ZeoKarb 226(H+), the rare earths pass through. Then thorium is eluted with 0.05MEDTA at pH 4.5 and subsequently the uranium with 2Nhydrochloric acid. These separation schemes are successfully applied to the analysis of monazite samples.
