摘要:
The development of a unique chromatographic separation method based on liquid foams is described. The sorption bed is liquid foam moving in a tall vertical column in plug flow manner. The foam is eluted from the top counter-currently to its motion. The mechanism of separation of mixtures is based on adsorption to bubble surface and/or utilizing the foam producing surfactant as a selective carrier. It is shown how this technique can be used for pulse as well as for continuous chromatographic separations. Results of some systematic studies on the effect of two independent variables, foam velocity and elution rate, on separation of mixtures of organic dyes is presented and discussed.

摘要:
Thin-layer chromatography of 40 metal ions in 31 aqueous and mixed solvent systems has been performed on stannic antimonate ion-exchange material. Dimethylsulfoxide has been utilized to resolve such binary mixtures as La3+and Ce3+from Pr3+, Nd3+, and Sm3+; VO2+from Ti4+, Nb5+, and Ta5+; Ga3+from In3+, Tl+, and Y3+; Fe3+from VO2+; and Mg2+from Al3+.

摘要:
Straw pretreated with concentrated nitric acid has been used as an adsorbent in columns. This adsorbent has been shown to possess high adsorbability and high affinity for thorium, and it is based on this property that the pretreated straw is used to separate thorium from uranium and its daughters. The affinity of this column for thorium and uranium was studied, and a number of eluants have been investigated for the desorption. We found that several economical ammonium salts [0.2M(NH4)2SO4, 1N(NH4)2CO3, 1.5NNH4Cl, and 2NNH4NO3] could be used for the separation of thorium and uranium successfully. Finally, this column was successfully used to separate trace amounts of thorium from uranyl nitrate hexahydrate and to remove the daughters from thorium nitrate dodecahydrate.

摘要:
Experimental problems associated with the previous flexible membrane system of electrical field-flow fractionation (EFFF) are first reviewed. The potential advantages of an effective EFFF system are then discussed and compared to those of electrophoresis. The general theory of EFFF is briefly stated, and the possible means for evaluating electrical field strength in the fractionating channel are discussed.

摘要:
The effects of pH, ionic strength, and specific ions on the adsorbing colloid flotation of lead(II) and zinc(II) with AI(OH)3and Fe(OH)3with sodium lauryl sulfate (NLS) as collector are reported. Floc foam flotation of lead with Fe(OH)3and gelatin, with MnO2and NLS, and with CaCO3and NLS or hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide was studied. Lead is efficiently removed with Fe(OH)3and NLS; zinc with Al(OH)3and NLS. A theoretical study was made of the effect of the charges of ions present as inert electrolyte; separations decrease in efficiency with increasing charge at constant ionic strength.

摘要:
The anionic (sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate, Nansa HS-80) and nonionic (oxyethylated nonylphenol, Rokaphenol NX-8) detergents were foamed from their solutions of different initial concentrations. The experimental results were used for the construction of diagrams which were found to be helpful for establishing the number of foaming processes in a multistage system. In another series, solutions of high detergent concentration were foamed in a multistage system. It was found that only the first processes of the multistage experiments gave good agreement with the results found in the diagrams. An explanation of the phenomenon is suggested.

摘要:
The distribution of Mo(VI) and Tc(VII) as molybdate and pertechnetate between Alamine 336 in benzene and other diluents and aqueous solutions of sulfuric and nitric acids was studied as a function of the concentration of acids and anions. The effect of the nature of the diluents and the presence of Tc on the extraction of Mo was studied.
