摘要:
An analytical method is proposed for volatilizable free radicals: In a film of liquid helium II, they are floated by heat-flush, heated selectively by nondestructive radiation, and separated by heat-exchange force, with which their spectra are then scanned. Alternative photophysical processes are briefly described. An adaptation of the heat-exchange method is suggested as an aid in the analysis of free radicals formed in irradiated solids. The heat-exchange method is shown to be important in the ultrapurification of materials.

摘要:
The two-dimensional cross-flow (2DCF) apparatus is a new cascade design which will separate a multicomponent feed into all its components in a continuous operation. The flow pattern for a 2DCF cascade is presented and discussed. An ideal theory shows that in discontinuous operation with continual feed 2DCF gives the same distributions as batch countercurrent distribution. (CCD). Discontinuous 2DCF could be used for preparatory work for any separations that CCD can be used. A steady-state continuous theory and possible alterations of the basic 2DCF apparatus are also presented.

摘要:
Mass transfer equations for the zone refining of systems with variable distribution coefficient have been solved using a Laplace transformation under the condition of no liquid mixing. It is suggested that this solution will describe more appropriately the solute distribution after a single zone pass through an organic solid than the conventional theory which assumes a constant distribution coefficient and complete liquid mixing.

摘要:
Dispersion coefficients of a polystyrene latex bead (diameter: 0.091 ± 0.0058 μ) and bovine serum albumin in sucrose and Ficoll (polysucrose by Pharmacia Fine Chemicals, Sweden) gradient solutions were measured in an Oak Ridge B-XV zonal centrifuge rotor. Measurements were analyzed by the moment method. Dispersion coefficients were then correlated in a reduced form in terms of Schmidt number as a function of reduced centrifugal force field strength, Taylor number, reduced sedimentation coefficient, density ratio between particle and gradient medium, and reduced time. 摘要:
Anisotropic hollow fibers allow construction of a dialyzing system that provides extremely large membrane surface in a small laboratory-sized system. Possessing the added property of high ultrafiltration flux, these fibers reduce salt exchange times from days to hours. In this system the exchange of salt by dialytic transport is largely unaffected by recirculation rate, solute type, or content, but is strongly affected by those variables which affect molecular diffusion, such as microsolute size and temperature. In contrast, diafiltration (convective salt removal by ultrafiltration), which primarily relates to solvent transport through the membrane, can be changed by operating pressure,polarizabilityof the macrosolute, as well as those conditions which tend to influence this latter phenomenon.

The dialytic transport of aniline from dilute water solutions through polymeric membranes was investigated. The activity gradient caused by neutralization of the base was used to drive the process. A number of membranes suitable for such separations were identified.

This note describes the effect of the phases volume ratio on the resolution and the minimum required number of transfers in countercurrent distribution. It is shown that the resolution or the minimum transfer number can be optimized by a correct choice of the phases volume ratio.

摘要:
Chromatography of 47 cations in 11 solvent systems has been performed on stannic molybdate ion exchange papers. Some difficult separations, e.g., Rb from Cs, Al-Be-Ga, and Tl-In, and specific separations of Ga, Au and Mg from numerous metal ions, have been achieved.RFvalues of some common metal ions on these papers have been compared withRFvalues of these cations on stannic tungstate and stannic phosphate papers. The preparation of papers is easy and the results are reproducible.
