摘要:
The extraction behavior of Zn(II), Cd(II), Hg(II), Au(III), and Tl(III) has been studied at different HCl molarities in some commercially available liquid anion exchangers. The effect of such variables as the type of amine, molarity of HCl, amine concentration, and organic diluent on extraction has been explored to suggest the best conditions of separation of Hg(II) from Zn(II), Cd(II), Au(III), and Tl(III).

摘要:
Experimental verification of the existence of a streaming potential phenomenon in draining ionic surfactant foams is reported. The streaming potential is directly proportional to column length, inversely proportional to solution conductivity, and independent of gas flow rate over the ranges of parameters studied. The streaming potential is of opposite sign for sodium lauryl sulfate (anionic) and hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide (cationic).

摘要:
Ethoxylated nonylphenol (Rokaphenol NX-8) with a mean content of 9 oxyethylene groups was subjected to fractionation by adsorption column chromatography. The fractions obtained with a different mean polyether chain length as well as nonseparated Rokaphenol were removed from their aqueous solutions of various concentrations in a foaming column. A correlation was found between the effect of foaming and the oxyethylation degree; namely, the lower the content of oxyethylene groups in the compounds, the better the result of foaming. This is true, however, merely in the case of compounds which dissolve well in water. If the content of oxyethylene groups is so low that it diminishes the solubility of the detergent in water, foaming proceeds much more poorly.

A graphical correlation method proposed by Rohrschneider and Littlewood for gas chromatography is applied to liquid-liquid partition of five homologous series of organic bases. The experimental data are interpreted in terms of the additivity ofRMvalues. Graphical estimation of partition coefficients of more complex molecules from group δRMsvalues and the correlation line of a simpler solute is described.

摘要:
The kinetic and equilibrium factors affecting the rate of precipitate flotation are analyzed by means of the Gouy-Chapman model. Kinetic effects are found to be extremely rapid, and the rate of precipitate flotation is due to equilibrium considerations. Removal efficiency as a function of inert salt concentration goes through a maximum at about 10−5Mfor films 300 Å thick. Removal efficiency increases with increasing zeta potential of the film surface and with increasing charge on the precipitate particles.

摘要:
Up to 15.7 ppm fluoride can be removed from solution, pH 7.3 to 7.8, by adsorption onto colloidal aluminum hydroxide at a concentration of 40 ppm Al. This adsorbing colloid-adsorbed ion combination is then removed by foaming with 40 ppm sodium lauryl sulfate. After 30 min the concentration of fluoride is 0.0 ppm. The concentration of aluminum is also 0 ppm. Efficiency of removal slowly decreases with increasing ionic strength. Chloride ion interference is minimal.

摘要:
The extraction of uranium(VI) by two amine oxides, 4-(5-nonyl)pyridine oxide and trioctylamine oxide has been studied. The extraction behavior of these twoN-oxides is compared. The dependence of extraction on the type of amine oxide and acid, nature of organic diluent, and amine oxide concentration has been investigated. The influence of the concentration of the metal and salting-out agents is described. The possible mechanism of extraction is discussed in the light of the results of extraction isotherms, loading radiodata, and log-log plots of amine oxide concentration vs distribution ratio. The separation factors for a number of metal ions are reported, and the separation of uranium from some fission product elements has also been achieved.

摘要:
An experimental apparatus was developed which permitted the thickness of liquid membranes to be measured. The observed values for the thickness were of the order of 0.01 cm which is considerably in excess of those values previously reported in the literature. The experimentally observed data were favorably compared to the thicknesses computed using boundary layer theory. Finally, dimensional analysis was used to develop a correlation of the computed membrane thickness as a function of the droplet diameter and system properties.
