摘要:
To facilitate the determination of the separation factor and the number of theoretical stages of a square cascade of close-separation stages from measurements of its long-time kinetics under total reflux, extensive tables of kinetics parameters have been produced in accordance with K. Cohen's theory. Cohen's treatment has been extended in several ways. The kinetics parameters of the first transient term have been finely mapped, and the ranges of various parameters have been extended to include large overall separations as well as the stripping section. The second transient term of the long-time kinetics has been evaluated, and a possible application of this correction term has been suggested in relation to the experimental determination of the column parameters. Under comparable conditions a steady concentration profile, along the column, is attained faster in the stripping section than in the enriching section. A distinction between the enriching and stripping section is important in using the transient theory for the evaluation of the cascade characteristics under ordinary laboratory conditions.

摘要:
Asphalt obtained from a refinery in Montreal was dissolved in toluene then fractionated in a preparative gel permeation chromatograph (prep.-GPC). Twenty-three fractions differing widely in molecular weights were collected and characterized by analytical GPC, viscometry, vapor pressure osmometry (VPO), element analyses, infrared spectroscopy (IR), and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR). Similar studies were also carried out, for comparison purposes, on aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons to elucidate structure information on the different asphalt fractions.

摘要:
Studies have been made on the extraction of some actinides [Th(IV), Pa(V), and U(VI)] and lanthanides [La(III), Ce(III), Pm(III), Eu(III), and Tb(III)] from hydrochloric acid medium by dialkyl sulfoxides. The actinides have extraction maxima at 7.0MHCl while the lanthanides practically do not get extracted. Thus the extraction separation of these two groups can be effected by the preferential extraction of the actinides by the sulfoxides.

摘要:
Di-n-pentyl sulfoxide (DPSO) was employed for the solvent extraction separation of some transition metals from hydrochloric acid medium. It was found that chromium(VI) gets extracted at low acid concentrations (3 to 4.5M), and iron(III) and cobalt(II) only above 5MHCl. Nickel was not extracted at any of the test conditions. These transition metals were separated from one another by suitable choice of the extraction conditions.

摘要:
Thin-layer chromatography of metal ions has been performed on stannic tungstate using solvent systems containing dimethyl sulfoxide. Such binary separations as Fe-Al, La-Pr, La-Nd, Cr-Al, Tl-In, Fe-Mn, and Cr-Mn have been achieved. Gold (100 to 240 μg) has been separated quantitatively from vanadium, chromium, cerium, iron, cobalt, nickel, bismuth, manganese, titanium, and thorium in DMSO: water (1:1), and the method has been found to be precise and accurate.

摘要:
The extraction of 10 phenolic acids from aqueous solutions was investigated by liquid-liquid partition chromatography using four diluents of various polarities: cyclohexane, benzene, di-n-butyl ether and diisobutyl ketone. Apparent solvation numbers were estimated from logDvs log% TBP plots. It is demonstrated that even low concentrations of TBP cause a significant increase of extraction of organic acids.
