摘要:
Ion implantation is conventionally associated with the controlled modification of the physical or chemical properties of the surface of a solid target. This note describes the extension of the process to the ion beam treatment of materials in powder form. It briefly outlines the special experimental techniques which have been found to be necessary and it identifies some quite general features which distinguish the ion doping of continuous solid surfaces and discrete particles.

摘要:
A technique for measuring sputtering yields of thin foils has been developed. The loss of target material due to sputtering is determined by measuring the thickness change by forward scattering of 500-keV protons. By coating one surface of the target foil with a low-yield material, the transmission-sputtering and backs puttering yields can be measured separately. The technique has been applied to measure sputtering yields of 500-keV Ar+→ Au as a function of target thickness. The transmission-sputtering yield of gold is found to be lower than predicted by theory. This indicates a large influence of the surfaces. No contribution from spikes may be discerned. The variation with target thickness is in good agreement with theory, showing no evidence of long-range energy-transport mechanisms.

摘要:
In a double alignment backscattering channeling experiment the angular dependence (for detector rotation) of helium ions-backscattered from a radiation damaged silicon crystal at room temperature-has been studied. The 1.5 MeV He+-beam was incident on the specimen parallel to <110>, the backscattered ions were registered on plastic films in the blocking directions [110], [010] and [111] and in small angular ranges around these blocking directions. The position of silicon interstitials is discussed by comparing the backscattering yield profiles-obtained as a function of emission angle from the spatial distribution of ion tracks on the plastic films-with calculated yield profiles on the computer simulations.

摘要:
The effect of positive ion bombardment on unencapsulated CdS/Cu2S thin film solar cells has been studied using monoenergetic positive ions (of1H,4He,16O,32S,35Cl,40Ar,63Cu,84Kr,112Cd or132Xe) with energies in the range 10–50 keV. The current-voltage characteristics of the cells have been analysed in terms of a five parameter model. The cell degradations produced by radiation damage have been shown to be dependent on the range of the incident particle. A reduction of the short circuit current was shown to result from damage to the cuprous sulphide layer of the cell whereas damage to the junction region was found to give rise to a reduction in the open circuit voltage. Annealing effects on radiation-degraded unencapsulated solar cells have been studied and the fractional recoveries of the cell parameters have been compared.

摘要:
Simple cubic void superlattices in electron irradiated fluorite are ascribed to radiation damage and defect diffusion in the anion sublattice alone. Interstitial crowdion migration and the calcium/fluorite misfit parameter are determining factors in the mechanism of super lattice formation.

摘要:
The radiation damage in molybdenum produced by 14 MeV neutrons has been compared with that produced by fission reactor neutrons. The increased damage level from 14 MeV neutrons compared to fission neutrons as measured by lattice parameter and microstructural changes is much greater than predicted from displaced atom calculations. The damage level measured by electrical resistance changes nearly agrees with the displaced atom calculations. The results are interpreted in terms of an increase in the ratio of clustered defects to free defects after 14 MeV neutron irradiation compared to fission reactor irradiations.

摘要:
From analysis of measurements and computer simulation of channeling, two contributions of thermal vibrations and nuclear lifetime to axial minimum yield can be distinguished. One is production of dechanneled trajectories and one is sampling of the flux of channeled ions near lattice sites.
