RbCI, RbBr, RbI and Nat targets have been bombarded with 6 keV Xe+ions. The energy distributions of the sputtered alkali and halogen atoms were examined with a time of flight method. We observed that random collision cascades, thermal spikes and evaporation of decomposed surface material contribute to the sputtering. The binding energies were found to be 3 to 8 times lower than the heat of atomization. The spike temperatures were of the order of 1500 K and a satisfactory agreement with theoretical expectations could be obtained. It is argued that the decomposition of surface material and the subsequent evaporation of alkali and halogen atoms is caused by the same inelastic processes that occur during the sputtering of alkali halides with electrons.

Close Frenkel pair recombinations were studied using programmed linear heating through substages IB and IC following irradiation at temperatures below 7 K. The resistivity of the platinum specimens was measured semi-continuously during annealing and corrections were made for the temperature coefficient of the resistivity increment due to the defects. This procedure yielded data of high density from which precise recovery curves could be constructed. The activation energies of the recovery processes were derived from the magnitude of the temperature shift at equal fractional recoveries with change in heating rate. Each substage is characterized by a range of energies and the energy spectrum is much broader after ion than after electron irradiations. The attempt frequency that corresponds to the vibrational mode of the interstitial that leads to recombination has also been determined for each substage.

摘要:
The stopping powers of Ti, Mn, Ni and Zn for41-le ions in the energy region 0.5-2.0 MeV have been measured by the elastic backscattering technique. The thick target scattering yields have been employed in the calculation of stopping powers relative to those of Al and Cu as reference materials. The experimental accuracy of the measured values estimated to vary from 2.6% at the highest energy to 3.9% at the lowest energy. The results obtained are compared with other experimental stopping power values for these elements.

摘要:
The monoclinic → cubic transformation in ZrO2, induced by fission-fragment irradiation, has been studied in single crystals. The transformed regions are partly coherent with the monoclinic matrix, as revealed by x-ray diffraction and electron microscopy. The transformation would seem to be due to stabilization of cubic zirconia with anion vacancies, produced by atomic collisions at the end of the fission fragment trajectory, rather than a “thermal spike” mechanism.

摘要:
Experiments have been carried out to study the role of radiations produced in the discharge of (a) Tesla Coil, and (b) Spark Gap, in the enhancement of the latent damage existing in the plastic track detectors. It has been found that the revelation of the damage trails is affected by the high voltage sparks. Plasma generated ultra-violet rays, electrons and ozone might be responsible for the sensitization.
