摘要:
Gamma radiolysis of solutions of ferrocene in carbon tetrachloride results in the disappearance of the solute and in the formation of ferricenium ion and inorganic iron ions. Measured yields are G(-ferrocene) = 2.88, G(ferricenium) = 1.54, and G(inorganic iron) = 1.3. The excellent mass balance with respect to iron indicates the absence of any organo-iron products other than ferricenium ion. The ratio G(ferricenium)/G(inorganic iron) of 1.18 gives support to the recent view that the major product of the radiolysis is the complex ferricenium tetra-chloroferrate although, since the ratio is rather greater than unity, it would appear that some simple ferricenium chloride is also produced. These experimental results contrast with an early study of the ferrocene-carbon tetrachloride system in which it was claimed that at least 95 per cent of the ferrocene destroyed could be accounted for as ferricenium chloride. A possible explanation of these contradictory conclusions is advanced, based on the use of different techniques for the isolation of the radiolysis products.

摘要:
In connection with the IAEA-neutron seed irradiation Programme, a standard neutron irradiation facility has been constructed. The application of solid state track recorders for fast neutron spectra measurements inside this facility is discussed. Fissionable targets of235U,239Pu,237Np,238W and232Th will be used, an approximative solution for the incident neutron spectrum will be obtained by a five-group method.

摘要:
Mica was bombarded with fission products from256Cf. After etching the holes were filled with uianium, the mica now serving as a detector with a nearly 4π geometry. Qualitative results of irradiations with 0.6 and 20 GeV protons are given to demonstrate the usefulness of this technique.

摘要:
Desorption spectra of various doses of 160eV helium ions injected into a damaged polycrystallinc tungsten target are described. Conclusions derived from these are applied to the interpretation of spectra obtained for the injection of helium (at different energies and doses) into an undamaged target, and are shown to be consistent with the spectral variations observed.

摘要:
The lattice disorder produced by 42-keV and 75-keV Hg ions implanted in Silicon at room temperature and the lattice location of the Hg atoms were studied by means of the channeling technique with a 2.0 MeV4He+beam. The damage produced was found to increase linearly with ion dose until a saturation value, connected to the ion range, is reached. The number of Si atoms displaced for Hg ion implanted was evaluated and compared with the theoretical expectation. The substitutional Hg fraction is connected to the disorder produced: the replacement mechanism is discussed.

摘要:
We find that the rate of track etching of heavy-ion tracks in Lexan polycarbonate is greatly increased when the track-containing plastics are stored in a container in which a spark-discharge is occurring. We describe a series of simple experiments, using a Tesla coil as the spark source, that have led us to the view that the effect is caused by the interaction of excited gas species with the stored tracks. It does not appear to be caused either by a direct electrical effect of the discharge or by light given off by the spark. This new effect can potentially be used as a method to both sensitize and stabilize plastics containing charged particle tracks.

摘要:
A series of experiments was performed to study the effect of types of etchant, concentration of etchant, etchant temperature and other parameters on track development in cellulose nitrate, polycarbonate resin, cellulose triacetate, and cellulose acetate butyrate plastic. This work has led to a set of preferred etching conditions for each of these plastics. For example, although there were only slight differences in general etching rate when LiOH, KOH, and NaOH were used as track etchants for cellulose nitrate, the alpha particle registration sensitivity was greatest when NaOH was used. Also in cellulose nitrate the general etching rate and the particle registration sensitivity did not change significantly with increasing concentration for hydroxide solutions > 6 N. This was in marked contrast to other plastics which showed a strong concentration dependence.
