摘要:
On évalue, pour une chaine atomique linéaire, la variation du coefficient de dilatation thermique Δ α lorsque la chaine est sous contrainte. On en déduit la variation du module de Young avec la température. L'accord raisonnable, sur ce second point, avec les résultats expérimentaux montre que le sens de variation trouvé pour Δ α demeure, au moins qualitativement, pour un cristal à 3 dimensions.

Mice were given intraperitoneal injections of the radioprotective drug,n-decylaminoethane thiosulfuric acid (n-C10H21-NH-(CH2)2-S2O3H), immediately prior to whole body X-irradiation at doses varying from sublethal (100R) to lethal (840R). In order to test the effect of this drug on the susceptibility of mice to infection, an attenuated living bacterial vaccine,Pasteurella tularensis(living vaccine strain, LVS), was injected subcutaneously at times varying from one hour to 28 days after irradiation.n-Decylaminoethane thiosulfuric acid was 100% effective in protecting non-infected mice against lethal irradiation and did not have any observable effect on non-irradiated mice infected withP. tularensis(LVS). However, if protected-irradiated mice were infected earlier than the tenth day post-irradiation, 100% deaths resulted. Cultures from autopsied mice showed large numbers of the bacterium in the liver, spleen, lymph nodes and blood. The susceptibility of protected-irradiated mice to infection decreased as the time after irradiation increased. Thus, it appeared that a bacterial infection from a living vaccine given earlier than one week after irradiation may abolish or mask the protective effects of the drug.

摘要:
The radiolysis of potassium permanganate solutions is studied by means of a double tracer technique and a new analytical procedure in parallel with an ESR investigation. In this way it has been possible to determine without doubt that the only radiolytic product formed is MnO2in neutral solutions and Mn (II) in acid solutions. In the latter case Mn (II), at least to a major part, appears to accumulate after the end of the irradiation. At the same time it disappears, oxidized by permanganate. Several suggestions are advanced to explain this radiolytic and post-irradiation behaviour.

A replica technique and electron microscopy have been applied to the study of ruby laser damage on germanium surfaces. Studies were made of the damage produced at very low laser energies far from the conditions of crater formation. The laser was operated in free generation conditions.

摘要:
It is proposed that mineral samples from the lunar surface be examined for possible measurement of the long-term lunar cosmic-ray environment. Observation of radiation-induced tracks in suitable lunar specimens could reveal, in principle, the primary cosmic-ray fluence for an epoch comparable with the lunar age. Such data would provide quantitative bounds on the long-term variation of cosmic radiation in the vicinity of the earth and thereby test necessary conditions for the hypothesis of cosmic-ray induced evolutionary effects from supernovae.

The dependence of the yield stress of vacuum-annealed and hydrogen-purified iron polycrystals on neutron dose and annealing temperature and the influence of these two parameters on the effect of static strain-ageing has been investigated. The radiation hardening was found to depend sensitively on the interstitial impurities N and C. This may be explained by both a nucleation of precipitation and a trapping of the impurities at radiation produced intrinsic defects. The radiation enhanced precipitation predominates in the relatively impure iron samples at low doses and may be eliminated by annealing at 190 °C. The trapping becomes effective at higher doses or in higher purity iron. Below 400 °C two recovery stages for the yield stress are observed, one between 200 and 260 °C and the other between 320 and 400°C; these may be explained by the detrapping of N and C respectively. The static strain-ageing was found to be reduced by neutron irradiation. It reappears after annealing at temperatures at which the precipitates are thought to be redissolved and the C and N atoms to be detrapped.

Uranylion was reduced to U4+by ionizing radiation in deoxygenated solutions containing organic solutes. This reduction is effected by free radical species formed from the organics and perhaps in part by H atoms from H2O decomposition. A detailed study of uranyl oxalate solutions showed that the role of H2O2in this system is complex and that chain-type reactions involving this species can occur.

摘要:
Radiation-induced latchup in commercially available junction-isolated integrated microcircuits is reported. Four different types of construction of integrated microcircuits have been examined. They include quadruplediffused, diffused collector, epitaxial, and epitaxial with buried layer (gold-doped). It was found that pnpn switching could be obtained between isolated components on these devices. In fact, pnpn paths were quite common in all but the last type mentioned. The current gains of the parasitic transistors involved in these pnpn paths were measured and were, in most cases, shown to indicate that pnpn switching should occur. However, important exceptions were seen. Latchup between these isolated components could be induced by a pulse of ionizing radiation even with a reverse bias on the substrate of the microcircuits. As a result of this investigation, it is concluded that the pnpn mechanism, since it is so common, is a majorcause of latchup in junction-isolated integrated microcircuits.
