摘要:
PurposeTo describe a case of cryptophthalmos in which an amniotic membrane graft was used in reconstruction of the upper eyelid and fornix.MethodsThe surgical history of a patient with partial cryptophthalmos is presented.ResultsSuccessful creation of a superior fornix in a case of partial cryptophthalmos was achieved only after an amniotic membrane graft was used.ConclusionsAmniotic membrane is a useful resource for fornix reconstruction in cryptophthalmos.

摘要:
BackgroundCongenital entropion and atrichosis of the lower eyelids associated with tarsal hypoplasia is a rare condition, with isolated reports in the literature and without previous pathologic examination.MethodsCase report. A father and son with mild entropion, lower eyelash atrichosis, and tarsal hypoplasia are described. A family pedigree demonstrates autosomal dominant inheritance.ResultsHistopathology from an entropion repair shows rudimentary tarsus and Meibomian glands consistent with hypoplasia of the tarsus.ConclusionsIsolated congenital entropion may occur in association with atrichosis of the lower eyelashes and hypoplasia of the tarsus as an isolated anomaly. The condition may be inherited as an autosomal dominant trait and appears to be well tolerated.

摘要:
PurposeTo describe a case of orbital metastasis from an undifferentiated pelvic tumor with probable cervical origination.MethodsCase report. Detailed ophthalmologic examination, orbital CT and MRI, and orbital biopsy with histologic and immunohistochemical analysis.ResultsA 29-year-old woman with a history of untreated cervical dysplasia was hospitalized with flank pain, hematuria, and abnormal vaginal bleeding. Biopsy of a large mass, protruding from the cervix as a grape-like cluster, had cellular morphology and immunohistochemical staining patterns consistent with cervical cancer. Diplopia in downgaze developed shortly after hospitalization. Ophthalmic examination was notable for mild right lower eyelid fullness, 1.5 mm right relative proptosis, and a deficit in supraduction and infraduction of the right eye. Orbital MRI and CT revealed a 1.2×1.6-cm mass immediately inferior and posterior to the right globe without bone involvement. On biopsy, the mass had histology similar to that of the pelvic tumor. On metastatic workup, lesions were found involving the left femoral head, liver, and spinal column, with adjacent lymphadenopathy. Despite treatment with radiation and chemotherapy, the patient died several months later of causes related to the systemic disease.ConclusionsOrbital metastasis of cancer originating in the cervix, despite its rarity, should be considered when an orbital mass of unknown cause is present.

摘要:
PurposeTo describe a case of familial Paget disease of bone associated with bilateral enophthalmos and mild exposure keratopathy.MethodsCase report and literature review.ResultsA 71-year-old woman with familial Paget disease of bone had a long history of “receding eyes,” headaches, and moderately dry eyes. She had bilateral enophthalmos with mild exposure keratopathy. Radiologic and endocrinologic investigation confirmed Paget disease of bone affecting the skull.ConclusionsEnophthalmos in association with Paget disease of bone is rare and is likely to result from differential expansion of the cranium compared with the orbital bones.
