摘要:
This paper is a systematic report on a collection of caddisflies from Papua‐New Guinea. Twenty‐four taxa are identified to species and nine others are determined only to the generic level. Te new species(Diplectrona papuanan. sp.,D. subtriangulaian. sp.,Herbertorossia kimminsin. sp.,Hydropsyche papuanan. sp.,Cheumatopsyche beronin. sp.,Polycentropus mounthagenin. sp.,P. elegansn. sp.,Polyplectropus chapmanin. sp.,Oecetis kimminsin.sp. andTriaenodes lelefominicusn.sp.)and the females ofPolycentropus similisKimm, andPolycentropus sinuosusKimm, are described. New faunistic data is presented for the other species which is supplemented in a few cases by taxonomic notes. The generaCheumatopsyche, PolyplectropusandNyctiophylaxare new to the fauna of New Guinea.

摘要:
Neoperla kachinsp. n. is described from Myitkyina, Burma, and ♂ holotype and ♀ allotype specimens are designated. Original drawings of ♂ and ♀ genitalia and SEM photomicrographs of the eggsupport the description.

摘要:
The larva ofHeterocloeon frivolus(McDunnough) comb. n. is described for the first time. Larval morphology indicates that the species be removed fromBaetisand placed in the monophyletic genusHeterocloeonand indicates a relatively ancestral position of the species among congeners ofHeterocloeon. On the basis of considerable new data, a previous phylogeny is falsified in part and a new phylogeny ofHeterocloeonis hypothesized.Heterocloeon petersiandberneriare considered to be advanced sibling species. It is also deduced thatHeterocloeonshareda recent commonancestor withPseudocloeonand certain derivedBaetis.

摘要:
The colonisation and succession of chironomids in a newly‐dug gravel pit habitat was investigated using replicate experimental ponds sampled during the summers of 1977 and 1978. In 1977 larvaeand emerging adults were collected, whilst in 1978 only adults were sampled. Benthic sampling showed the larval communities to be predominated byChironomusspp. whilst trapping of adults showed that this group accounted for only 4% of the emergence. This difference is attributed to the selective retention of the largerChironomuslarvae by the sieve used to screen benthos samples. The pioneer chironomid communities in the ponds are compared using similarity and diversity indices on adult emergence data. These showed that the pond communities were remarkably uniform in 1977, the first year of their existence, due to the predominance ofTanytarsus gracilentus. In 1978 the communities were much more variable. The community structure changed within the two years, with equitability increasing rapidly to that characteristic of a much more mature habitat. These successional changes are attributed to a reduction in uniformity of the habitat resulting from the growth of aquatic macrophytes.

摘要:
Mosquito(Culex pipienscomplex) larvae were found to be useful as grazers of bacteria in domestic sewage. The grazing rate of larvae onPseudomonas aeruginosaincreased with temperature and with concentration of bacteria in the medium. The possibility of using mosquito larvae as a component in sewage purification systems is discussed.
