摘要:
Life cycles of the two saddle‐case making caddisflies,Glossosoma inops(Tsuda) andAgapetus yasensis(Tsuda) (Trichoptera, Glossosomatidae), were studied in Akadani Stream, Kii Peninsula, southern Honshu, Japan. Larvae ofG. inopsoccurred chiefly in the mainstream, while those ofA. yasensiswere restricted to a hillside tributary.Agapetus yasensiswas univoltine. This species grew slowly from late August through March, overwintered in the third and fourth instars, and pupae occurred from late April to early August. On the other hand,G. inopsseemed to be a trivoltine species which produces a partial third generation in summer: certain part of cohorts which hatched in July grew rapidly and emerged in late August, while the rest of them grew slowly and emerged in late November. The summer generation exhibited the smallest size at third to fifth instar larvae among the three generations.

摘要:
Drumming and other behaviors of two stonefly species,Microperla brevicaudaKawai andKamimuria tibialis(Pictet) were observed in the field.M. brevicaudaexhibited both contact drumming and non‐contact drumming. Contact drumming was performed by a male or female mounted by other individuals, and the temporal and spatial patterns of contact drumming correlated with copulative behaviors. Non‐contact drumming was produced only by males, especially dark‐colored males, in the field. But in the laboratory, females responded with non‐contact drumming to male's drummings. The frequency of non‐contact drumming inM. brevicaudacorrelated with that of walking, but not with that of copulation in time and space.

摘要:
Adult male and female ofLeuctra ravizzaisp. n. belonging to theL. hippopusgroup(L. primasubgroup), are described. The species appears to be endemic to the Western Alps, where it occurs in brooks and spring rivulets at high altitudes only. The description is supported by original drawings of both the new species, and of the closely relatedL. pseudosigniferaAubert,L. helveticaAubert andL. sesvennaAubert.

摘要:
The unknown natural mating systems of Plecoptera will involve some combination of aggregation of the sexes, vibrational or other form of communication and potentially diverse mate searching patterns. Proposed initial aggregation of sexes in Arctoperlaria species is provided by encounter site conventions such as resource‐based feeding sites or various nonresource‐based conventions such as planttopping and bankscrambling. Established patterns of intersexual vibrational communication further aid the mate finding process. Males call for females during a ranging search, then engage in unknown patterns of localized searching after duetting is established. The simplest, most efficient form of localized search would be direct homing on stationary, answering females.

摘要:
Morphological characters of the larvae and the habitat distribution of larvae and pupae in a stream were noted for the nymphomyiid flyNymphomyia albabased on quantitative samples collected at a mountain stream in Central Honshu, Japan. The stream is the second locality of the species.
