摘要:
Taxonomy, morphology and geopgraphical distribution of 5 species of Hydraenidae(Hydraena ripariaKugelann,H. assimilisRey,H. melasDalla Torre,H. reyiKuwert andH. egoniJäch), belonging to theHydraena ripariacomplex are discussed. New synonymies, greatly affecting the nomenclature within the complex, are established:Hydraena melas (= bohemica Hrbacek=sternalisRey) andreyi (= sternalissensu auctorum, not Rey).Hydraena assimilisregarded until today as a synonym of Hripariais shown to be a species propria, distinguished fromH. ripariaby its considerably shorter aedeagal flagellum. Neotypes are designated forH. riparia, H. melas, H. laevisDalla Torre andT. brunneaDalla Torre. Lectotypes are designated forH. longipalpisMarsham,H. signataRey,H. bipunctataRey,H. cribricollisRey andH. reyi.Morphological details of the last abdominal segments of the females were thoroughly studied to permit their identification. Distribution maps are provided for all five species.

摘要:
The holotype ofKempnyia melagonaKlapalek, 1916 has been retrieved. It is a synonym of K.neotropica(Jacobson & Bianchi, 1905), which is thought to be a variable species. Themelagona‐typeagrees with the morph originally described asfuscaNavás, 1932.

摘要:
On the Atlantic island of Madeira, mobile invertebrate predators such as perlid and perlodid stoneflies as well as a native fish fauna are absent, permitting tests of hypotheses concerning the influence of predators on the nocturnality of drift. Here, species and size composition of the drift, in addition to drift lengths, were studied in two man‐made waterways (levadas). It was found that the following insects dominated in the drift:Baetis rhodani(Ephemeroptera),Dixa tetrica(Diptera), Chironomidae (Diptera), and Simuliidae (Diptera). Wind increased the drift density, evidently by causing large amounts of terrestrial plant material to enter, especially in the more open streams. It seems likely that the drifting material caused the benthic animals to drift either through direct mechanical action or via indirect effects, such as visual disturbance.

摘要:
Chromosomal analysis has revealed that what appeared to beHelophorus minutusF. from Tarifa (Spain, Provincia de Cadiz) is in fact a separate, sibling species, here described asH. calpensissp.n. Crossing maleH. calpensiswith femaleH. minutusfrom Surrey, England, resulted in embryos, most of which failed to hatch, and none of which survived beyond the second larval instar. Study of the chromosomes of hybrid embryos did not reveal obvious irregularities in chromosomal condensation, such as have been found in hybrids betweenH. minutusandH. paraminutusAngus, andH. lapponicusThorns, andH. paraminutus.

摘要:
The intra‐specific variation ofWiedemannia zetterstedti(Fallen, 1826) was found to include morphs named asW. escheri(Zetterstedt, 1938) andW. hirtiloba(Speiser, 1924). The last two species are synonymized withW. zetterstedti.
