Paraboreochlus stahlisp. n. is described from collections in small streams of northwestern Pennsylvania, U.S.A. The larva (presumed), pupa, female (partial) and male are discussed and illustrated.P. stahliis only the second species known for the genus and is the first described species ofParaboreochlusfrom outside the Palaearctic. A differential diagnosis forP. stahliandP. minutissimus(Strobl) Edwards indicates distinct differences for the larva, pupa and male of these two species. The partial description of the female ofP. stahliis the first for the genus.

Oviposition, egg sinking rates, ion excretion in eggs and early embryos, and egg permeability and resistance to desiccation were studied inTanytarsus barbitarsisa chironomid inhabiting highly saline waters in southern Australia. The aim was to investigate the nature of adaptations displayed by eggs and early embryonic stages of this species to life in hypersaline waters.

Protonemura brachystylasp.n. is described from the Lesser Caucasus, USSR. The new species is compared toP. vernalisZhiltzova andP. aculeataTheischinger.P. aculeatais first recorded from the USSR and is common in the Greater and Lesser Caucasus.

The new genusEcuaphlebiais established and 1 new species of the genus is described from Ecuador, based on imagines. A second species is described but not named, based on subimagines and nymphs. Diagnostic morphological characters of both nymphs and imagines are illustrated.

The larva, the larval case and the silk ofRheotanytarsus musdcolaKieffer was examined with scanning electron microscopy. The structures of mouthparts and the larval case are described in relation to feeding habits and silk production. Three methods of silk formation seem to be used. One is used in the capture net, and is produced by the act of grooves on the anterior edge of the ventromental plates. The other, which has a finer texture and is used in case construction, seems to be produced by the action of the ventromental and maxillary lamellae. The third silk type is formed as the silk secretion is ejected through the mouth cavity, producing a thicker silk strand, which is used in the framework of the capture net.
