Neohapalothrix acanthonympha(Brodsky, 1954) (from the Altai and the Russian Far East) andN. shirozuiSaigusa, 1973 (from Hokkaido) are placed in the synonymy ofN. manschukuensis(Mannheims, 1938) (from Manchuria). The genusNeohapalothrixKitakami seems indeed to be a close relative of the European genusHapalothrixLoew. The tribal assignment of both genera is discussed.

摘要:
A central aspect of simuliid adaption to life in moving water is a silky secretion which they produce in their salivary glands. This secretion is spread on the substrate surface thereby enabling adhesion of the posterior abdominal hooks of the larvae to the substrate surface. Therefore, silk pads are a prerequisit for simuliid filter‐feeding as well as any kind of locomotive activity. If silk pad adhesion is weak, larvae risk drifting off, either directly or during locomotion. Properties of the adhesive (=silk) as well as the substrate surface may cause weak adhesion. A specialist such asS. noelleriwhich has little chance of surviving after drifting off its lake outlet habitat, should have adaptations to reduce this risk. Such an adaptation could be very durable silk pads, giving larvae the chance to be safely attached for a relatively long time. In this study larval silk pads ofS. ornatumandS. noelleriwere stained using Giemsa's staining procedures. Changes in silk pad structure and traces of rot after 2–33 days of exposure to stream water were recorded and compared. Silk pads of S.ornatumandS. noellerishowed differences which indicate differences in ageing processes and biochemistry of this secretion.

Changes in the quantities of seston (phytoplankton and zooplankton), and epilithic algae, and densities ofAoteapsyche raruraru(McFarlane) larvae were investigated over a six month period at three sites 15 m, 25 m, and 250 m below the outlet of Lake Kaniere, Westland, New Zealand. Phytoplankton abundance varied little between sites, however zoo‐plankton densities were highest 25 m below the outlet where the highest hydropsychid densities were also found. In contrast, epilithic algal biomass was greatest 250 m below the outlet where the fewest hydropsychids were collected. Higher densities and larger larvae were found on the upper surfaces of stones in faster water (> 0.6 m s‐1). Net morphology also changed as current velocity increased: at slower currents (< 0.2 m s‐1) 70–80% of larvae had “sail”; nets with a single jib support, whereas at >0.65 m s‐1more than 80% of larvae had nets with two “goal post”; supports. Gut analysis indicated that larvae in slower currents had ingested a higher proportion of filamentous algae and diatoms, whereas larvae in faster currents had higher proportions of zooplankton in their diets. Results of this study indicate that net design is influenced by current velocity which influences diet and possibly growth in the outlet of Lake Kaniere.
