摘要:
The male of a new species ofOukuriellaEpler, 1986,O. gracilissp. n., is described from Brazil. The new species is distinguished by slender abdominal segments, distinctive setal tufts on abdominal tergites, markings on the abdominal segments, and brownish rings distally on the tibiae. A key to adult males ofOukuriellais provided.

摘要:
Neohydrocoptus jaechi(Wewalka) is recorded for the first time in Egypt. It is very similar toN. angolensis(Peschet), but there are aedeagal differences. The karyotype consists of 6 pairs of autosomes and sex chromosomes which are neo-XY (♂) and neo-XX (♀). C-banding shows that the sex chromosomes ofCanthydrus diophthalmus(Reiche & Saulcy) are not the small pair suggested by Bilton (1992), but are one of the largest pairs, with the Y-chromosome totally heterochromatic. The implications of these findings are considered in the light of Belkaceme's (1991) work on the phylogeny of Noteridae.Neohydrocoptusis placed among the group of more primitive genera, outside the closely-knit group of higher Noteridae, whileCanthydrusis placed right at the top of the higher Noteridae. The neo-XY sex chromosomes ofNeohydrocoptuscould be a primitive condition for the family, while the system found inCanthydrusis derivable from that ofSynchortusSharp (Saleh Ahmed et al., 1997) (one of Belkaceme's basal genera of the higher Noteridae) by loss of the mainly heterochromatic X2-chromosome, leaving the more normal X1-chromosome and the Y, which is almost entirely heterochromatic inSynchortusand completely so inCanthydrus.

摘要:
Diagnoses of all stages of the new genusAagaardiaare given. The genus includesA. sivertseni(Aagaard), originally described inEukiefferiella Thienemann, from Norway and Finland and described in all stages;A. protensasp.n. from Finland andA. triangulatasp.n. from Turkey described as male imagines; andA. longicalcissp.n. from Canada described in both sexes. The male imagines share bare eyes, strong punctation on wings, bare squama, extended costa, triangular gonostylus and two groups of extremely strong and sclerotized virga. The pupa and the female genitalia show relationship withParatrissocladiusZav[rcirc]el, while the larva is very similar to the larvae ofPsilometriocnemusSæther andPlatysmittiaSæther. Parsimony analyses suggest thatAagaardiaforms the plesiomorphic sister genus to the rest of theHeterotrissocladiusgroup combined.

摘要:
The first record from Southern Europe, and a redescription are given ofMesobates forcipatus, a rare water mite species so far believed to be restricted to Scandinavia and Northern Russia. The differences between this species andM. longipesfrom the Ussuri region in Eastern Russia are outlined.M. churchillensisfrom Canada is most probably a synonym ofM. forcipatus. The phylogenetic significance of some character states inAtractides-like genera of the family Hygrobatidae is discussed. A monophyletic origin and early radiation of this group of genera in the Southern hemisphere is hypothesized, withMesobatesandAtractidesas two representatives that successively reached the temperate and cold climatic belts of the Northern hemisphere.

摘要:
Four new genera are described for four new species of Chironomidae from southern Africa.Paradoxocladius mangoldi(Orthocladiinae) is based on all life stages,Lunditendipes tropicum(Chironominae) on male adults,Xestotendipes sufflavus(Chironominae) on male and female adults, and Zuluchironomus demoori (Chironominae) on male and female adults. A highly apomorphic larva with a cleft mid-mentum, possibly belonging toZ. demoori, is also described. Some ecological details are given.
