摘要:
Benthic samples (n = 54) were collected at three sites along an unshaded, first‐order springbrook, 0–3 m, 15–19 m, and 24–27 m below a permanent spring outflow in Mendocino Co., CA, USA. As distance from spring source increased, number of species and species diversity ([Hbar]) decreased, but number of individuals increased. These patterns may have resulted from temperature fluctuation regimes at these three sites, or from a spring source/springbrook ecotone effect. The sericostomatid caddisflyGumaga nigricula(McL.) had highest population density ([xbar] > 10,000/m2) although seven other populations had mean densities > 100/m2. Distribution ofG. nigriculain the springbrook appears to reflect adult oviposition behavior. Zonation patterns and sampling variability in springbrook habitats must be considered in studies that compare first‐order with higher‐order streams (e.g. the River Continuum Concept).

摘要:
Wormaldia occipitalis trifidassp. n. from Western Norway is described based on characters of the male phallus. The phallus of West NorwegianWormaldia subnigraMcLachlan, 1865 is found to differ from British and Continental European specimens also.

摘要:
The generic diagnosis forGymnometriocnemusGoetghebuer, 1932 is enlarged and revised and the genus divided into two subgenera,Gymnometriocnemuss. str. andRaphidocladiussubgen. n. with the type speciesGymnometriocnemus (Raphidocladius) acigussp. n. A key to males ofGymnometriocnemusfor the Holarctic region is given. The subgeneric diagnosis for imagines and pupa of the new subgenusRaphidocladiusis presented.Gymnometriocnemus (R.) acigusis described from male, female and pupa and the males ofGymnometriocnemus (Raphidocladius) brumalis(Edwards),Gymnometriocnemus (G.) subnudus(Edwards), andGymnometriocnemus (G.) marionensisSæther are redescribed. The new subgenus is characterized by very long virgal spines in the male, and by a pupa with frontal setae, caudal spines on tergites IV‐VIII, 3 pairs of 0 setae, and hair‐like macrosetae placed on bifid, sclerotized tubercles.

摘要:
Larval and adultPteronarcys scottiRicker were collected from a mountain stream in northwestern South Carolina, USA. The pattern of larval growth indicated a semivoltine life cycle. Emergence occurred in April and early May, and small larvae first appeared in May. Sexual dimorphism in adult size was apparent; males were 0.8 as large as females in head capsule width.
