摘要:
This is the second paper in a series on the emergence patterns of aquatic insects from a sandstone‐shale first‐order stream of northwestern Pennsylvania. Fifteen species, with 6,708 specimens, in six families were collected from the Sixmile Creek site over five years. Adults occurred from March through August in 1977–79, in January 1980 and September 1981. Peak months of emergence in terms of total collection were May, withSweltsa onkos(Ricker) andAmphinemura nigritta(Provancher) predominant, and July withLeuctra tenuis(Pictet) predominant.

摘要:
Descriptions are given for the three larval instars ofAgabus approximatusFall 1922 andA. congener(Thunberg 1794) based on reared specimens from northern Sweden. Characters are provided to separate the larvae of these two very similar species. Notes on the natural history of both species are given, and larval differentiation in theA. congenerspecies group is briefly discussed.

摘要:
The pupa of the elmid beetle,Lara avarais described. This pupa is similar to other pupae in the Elmidae, differing mainly in its large size, and the presence of lateral projections on the abdominal tergites. A description of the pupal habitat is included. Diagnostic characters of pupae of the subfamily Larinae are discussed.

摘要:
The diel periodicity of mayflies was investigated in a Laurentian stream in 1966. The peak period of emergence of mayflies was found to be between 13:00 and 16:00 h (Eastern Standard Time) during the first month of the season and the emergence was more dispersed during the rest of the summer due to the appearance of species emerging around sunset. Most species showed a definite diel pattern of emergence. Males and females of a given species emerged at the same time of the day in most cases, the emergence being perhaps a little more synchronous in females. They exhibited the same general pattern of diel periodicity throughout their seasonal emergence. In males ofParaleptophlebia adoptivaandLeptophlebia cupidahowever, the peak period moved to an earlier time of day as the emergence season progressed andBaetis pygmaeusemerged in a slightly more dispersed fashion in mid‐summer when days were longer and warmer. Notes on the diel periodicity of the reproduction are included and the possible factors determining the diel periodicity of emergence are briefly discussed.

摘要:
Light trap catches of caddisflies from the River Danube at Veröce in Hungary in 1980 are analysed. They are compared with catches from Linz on the Danube and from sites on the Rhine. It is suggested that light trap catches of caddisflies are a useful indicator of water quality in large rivers.

摘要:
Descriptions are given of all three larval instars ofCoelambus novemlineatus(Stephens, 1829) based on reared specimens from northern Sweden. A key to third‐instar larvae of six European species ofCoelambusis provided. Larva ofC. novemlineatusis very similar to that ofC. marklini(Gyllenhal), both being characterized by the presence of swimming hairs on tibiae and tarsi in combination with long cerci that only have seven primary setae. In addition, information is offered on the distribution and habitat of the species.
