摘要:
Males ofApatania fimbriatawere caught in significantly higher numbers at sticky traps baited with whole body extracts of females than at controls, thus indicating that these extracts contained a female sex pheromone. Experiments with whole body extracts of females run during eight 24 hr periods attracted significantly more males between dawn and noon than at other times of the diel. Old pupae attracted significantly more males than young pupae.

摘要:
Feeding habits of a little‐known tanypod,Thienemannimyia festiva(Diptera: Chironomidae) were analysed using samples collected from Lough Neagh, Northern Ireland. Amongst a total of 215 individuals examined, a vast majority (90.2%) contained food material in the guts, almost always of animal origin. 91.2% of these feeding predators were observed with chironomid prey, 14,4% with harpapticid copepods and 7.7% with oligochaetes. Numerically, chironomids, harpapticids and oligochaetes accounted for 81.5%, 7.3% and 2.3% of all the prey taken, respectively. The modal number of prey items ingested was two for the fourth instarT. festiva(maximum ten items) and one for the third instars (maximum six items). Among the chironomid prey second and third instars accounted for 43.7% and 40.8% in the fourth instar predators and 78.8% and 6.1% in the third instar predators, respectively. Thus significant differences in diet were observed between the fourth and the third instar predators with respect to the number of prey items and the sizes of chironomid prey ingested.

摘要:
The genetic structure ofDolaniapopulations in South Carolina, Alabama, and Florida was examined using starch gel electrophoresis. All study populations except Alabama consisted entirely ofD. americanaEdmunds and Traver. Electrophoresis revealed that the Alabama site contained bothD. americanaand an undescribed species (D.sp. nov.), with the latter taxon predominating. Individuals of the two taxa had nearly fixed allelic differences at two loci (Est 4andGda). The extent of genetic differentiation between populations of the two taxa in the same river or between adjacent river systems was significantly greater than betweenD. americanapopulations separated by large geographic distances. Populations of both species were characterized by relatively normal levels of polymorphic loci (average = 23%) but unusually low levels of heterozygosity (average = 0.03). Genetic variation between the Florida and South Carolina populations ofD. americanawas statistically significant. There was also some indication of slight genetic differentiation among populations ofD. americanawithin the Blackwater River in Florida. No significant genetic variation was observed between cohorts ofD. americanaat a given site.

Acroneuria evolutaKlapálek, 1909, redescribed from the holotype, is found to be conspecific withA. melaFrison, 1942. A new species,A. frisoni, is named forA. evoluta)sensu Frison, 1942(, and details of its penial armature based on scanning electron micrographs are given.

摘要:
There has been some co‐evolution of male ventral abdominal structure with method of producing vibrational call signals and call pattern diversity in Plecoptera. Male Antarcto‐perlaria have no specialized ventral abdominal structures and are not known to drum. Male Arctoperlaria without vesicles, lobes, knobs or hammers all produce relatively simple calls by tapping on substrate, or have derived a tremulation method of producing calls. Elongate, moveable vesicles on abdominal segment 9 are homologous structures in ancestral and some extant Euholognatha families, and are primarily associated with ancestral call patterns.AllocapniaandTaeniopteryx, that have secondarily lost vesicles, have retained the ancestral drumming pattern. The lobes, knobs and hammers of Systellognatha, that are characterized with SEM in this paper, are probably non‐homologous with vesicles of Euholognatha, and presumably have arisen independently in various families and genera. Systellognathan species with these structures have either retained ancestral, tapping call patterns, or have derived highly specialized grouped, or phased patterns or a rubbing method of signal production. Rubbing has been derived only in association with the knobs of Peltoperlidae or hammers of Perlidae. Complex drumming pattern diversity is unnecessary in females, and as expected, we have found no complex answer patterns, rubbing method of answering or specialized drumming structures in them.

摘要:
Two new species,Colobaea eossp. n. and C.flavipleurasp. n., are described. The type material was collected at several localities in the far eastern USSR and is deposited in the Zoological Museum, Moscow State University. Diagnostic characters of the male terminalia are illustrated and all of the known species ofColobaeaare keyed. The generic characteristics of the genus are briefly discussed, including some unique features found in both of the new species. An annotated world catalog of the 12 known species is given.
