摘要:
Pt/Au thin‐film couples were heat treated in 1 atm N2, He, and in vacuum. The outdiffusion kinetics of Au through the Pt were determined by measuring the Au concentration on the Pt surface using Auger electron spectroscopy. Au was found to outdiffuse through 6–10 kA˚ Pt at rates 15 and 30 times faster in 1 atm N2and 1 atm He, respectively, than in vacuum, at 350 °C. These results are the first published documentation of the remarkable acceleration of thin‐film interdiffusion caused by the presence of nonreacting gases.

摘要:
A surface‐acoustic‐wave memory device with very long storage time is demonstrated using a ZnO/SiO2/Si monolithic convolver. Stored signals in the form of the charge grating in the SiO2/Si interface is duplicated in the second storage centers in the ZnO by injecting electrons from the metal electrode. A storage time of more than 10 h has been obtained.

摘要:
An ultrasound beam incident on a liquid‐solid interface with superimposed grating is shown to be displaced in a backward direction at certain angles of incidence predicted by the theory of T. Tamir and H. L. Bertoni [J. Opt. Soc. Am. 61, 1397–1413 (1971)]. The analogy between the ultrasonic phenomenon and the corresponding optical phenomenon is cited.

摘要:
Piezoelectric leaky wave coupling of a LiNbO3surface acoustic wave (SAW) to a CdS bulk wave is reported. A tapped SAW delay line is constructed using a CdS bulk‐wave amplifier weakly coupled across an air gap to a yz LiNbO3SAW delay line. Insertion loss of the tapped delay line with untuned IDT’s is 19 dB. Leaky wave coupling contributes only 1 dB to the insertion loss. Additional delayed pulses 2.5 dB larger than the SAW are easily achieved.

摘要:
A new dislocation climb model is proposed for compound semiconductors with the zinc blende structure. Within the model a supersaturation of only one type of point defect is needed for the dislocation climb process. Consideration of the forces involved suggest that in compound semiconductors grown by liquid‐phase epitaxy, interstitial climb is favored. A trail of vacancy defects is then expected to result from the climb process. Experimental observations in support of this model are presented for the case of the defect structures produced during degradation of Ga1−xAlxAs/GaAs (DH) lasers and GaP green‐light‐emitting diodes.

摘要:
A simple accurate method for normalizing the absolute magnitude of measured relative rare‐gas excitation cross‐section data to published measurements of the first Townsend coefficient is presented. Using a code which solved the Boltzmann equation we have determined that the predicted first Townsend coefficient is a very sensitive function of the electron impact excitation cross section. In Ar and Kr we have found that a 10% change in the cross section results in a 30% change in the first Townsend coefficient.

The current I and the magnetic fieldBgenerated during the interaction of focused laser pulses (10.6 &mgr;m, 4 J, 1.7 ns or 1.06 &mgr;m, 4 J, 20 ns) on a copper target were measured simultaneously as a function of the background pressure in air, N2, He,Ar, and CO2, the results show thatIandBare connected, and in addition provide experimental evidence for the diffusion of the magnetic field in laser‐produced plasmas.
