摘要:
Co/Ni multilayer thin films with a constant Co thickness of 2.2 nm, Ni thickness ranging from 0.5 to 5.0 nm, and a total of 20 bilayers were fabricated using dc magnetron sputtering. These multilayers show a steep magnetoresistance (MR) change with low saturation magnetic field, in‐plane uniaxial anisotropic properties, and an especially large magnetoresistance change between magnetic fieldHapplied parallel and perpendicular to the in‐plane easy axis. ForHparallel to the multilayer easy axis andHat 45° to the currentI, a MR ratio of 15% with a FWHM of 13 Oe was obtained. While forHperpendicular to the easy axis and at 45° toI, a MR ratio of 19.1% with a FWHM of 34 Oe was obtained. The former implies a MR sensitivity of 1.15%/Oe, while the sensitivity of the latter is 0.56%/Oe. All the peaks of the MR curve appeared at the coercive fieldHcof the multilayers. The most important characteristics of the MR change were a sharp increase in resistance followed by a very steep decrease with increasingH. These Co/Ni multilayers are promising candidates for magnetic storage and sensor technology. ©1996 American Institute of Physics.

摘要:
Fcc‐Co(110) and hcp‐Co(11¯00) films of 200 A˚ thickness were grown on MgO(110) and bcc‐Cr(211)/MgO(110), respectively, by the molecular beam epitaxy method. Reflection high energy diffraction was used toinsitucharacterize the crystal structure. Co films grown directly on MgO(110) were pseudomorphic fcc structure. Twofold symmetrical hcp‐Co(11¯00) films on top of the bcc‐Cr(211)/MgO(110) were grown and confirmed. The magneto‐optical Kerr effect (MOKE) was used to investigate the magnetic anisotropy of these films. The magnetization of these samples was found to be in‐plane. The magnetization of fcc‐Co films has cubic symmetry with texture induced uniaxial anisotropy. For hcp‐Co(11¯00)/bcc‐Cr(211) bilayer films, the magnetization was strongly anisotropic, but independent of the thickness of the Cr layer. ©1996 American Institute of Physics.

摘要:
We present the results of large‐area (20 cm2) diamond deposition from a scaled‐up stagnation‐flow reactor. The reactor uses a unique nozzle geometry that optimizes reagent gas usage. The premixed acetylene–oxygen–hydrogen flames were operated in a highly strained configuration, allowing uniform deposition of diamond with growth rates exceeding 25 &mgr;m/h. Substrate temperature control and flame stability of the chemical vapor deposition reactor are described. Diamond films were deposited on a molybdenum substrate with a surface temperature of approximately 1200 K and C/O ratio of 1.03. Diamond film growth results are presented, and film uniformity is assessed using micro‐Raman spectroscopy. ©1996 American Institute of Physics.
