Magnetic bubbles have been propagated on ion implanted patterns in a (100) garnet film for the first time. Charged walls form in the implanted layer at the edges of unimplanted features due to stress relief at the pattern edges. In response to a rotating in‐plane field, they circulate completely around unimplanted circles and 8‐&mgr;m contiguous disk patterns, carrying underlying bubbles along. This is because in the Bi‐yttrium iron garnet composition used, the magnetostriction coefficients &lgr;100and &lgr;111are both negative.
