摘要:
The effects ofN2annealing on the physical properties of room-temperature-deposited ion plating (IP) oxide have been characterized. As-deposited IP oxide exhibits higher refractive index and dielectric constant values than high-temperature-annealed IP oxide. Strained bonds existing in as-deposited oxide can be relaxed byN2annealing depending on the annealing temperature. After annealing at 800 °C, the physical characteristics of IP oxide are comparable to those of thermal oxide. ©1997 American Institute of Physics.

摘要:
A 1.55 &mgr;m multiple quantum well laser heteroepitaxially grown on Si substrate operates under the severe aging condition of the light output of 5 mW/facet at 50 °C. The laser has been operating for more than 7000 h. The threshold current and the slope efficiency of the laser on Si at 20 °C are 32 mA and 0.19 W/A, respectively. The maximum operation temperature is above 80 °C. ©1997 American Institute of Physics.

摘要:
MetallicLaNiO3(LNO) films were prepared onLaAlO3(LAO) by metalorganic decomposition (MOD) and their application as the bottom electrode in sol-gel derivedBaTiO3(BTO) thin film was studied by means of x-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy. BTO film on LNO-coated LAO exhibited preferred (100) orientation and smooth surface with fine grains (∼50 nm). Electrical measurements on BTO film capacitor showed good ferroelectric hysteresis, lower loss tangent and good insulating properties. These results indicated the BTO/LNO heterostructure fabricated by sol-gel and MOD technique to be a promising combination for microelectronic device applications. ©1997 American Institute of Physics.

摘要:
Lattice-cooled superconducting hot-electron bolometric mixers are used in a submillimeter-wave waveguide heterodyne receiver. The mixer elements are niobium nitride film with 3.5 nm thickness and∼10 &mgr;m2area. The local oscillator power for optimal performance is estimated to be 0.5&mgr;W, and the instantaneous bandwidth is 2.2 GHz. At an intermediate frequency centered at 1.4 GHz with 200 MHz bandwidth, the double sideband receiver noise temperature is 410 K at 430 GHz. The receiver has been used to detect molecular line emission in a laboratory gas cell. ©1997 American Institute of Physics.

Crystalline powders of Na-dopedLaMnO3have been precipitated from molten sodium hydroxide at 450 °C. Elemental analysis by wavelength dispersive spectroscopy indicates than Na substitutes for Mn givingLaMn1−xNaxO3+&dgr;,withx=0.2.The pseudocubic lattice parameter of 3.916 Å is larger than that of the undoped material, consistent with substitution at the Mn site. Analysis of magnetic susceptibility gives a ferromagnetic Curie–Weiss temperature of 130 K, which is to be compared with the onset of weak ferromagnetism near 300 K. Low-temperature magnetization measurements suggest a model of canted antiferromagnetic clusters. ©1997 American Institute of Physics.

摘要:
Two modes of electron emission have been observed from the ferroelectric ceramic PLZT when subjected to a high voltage bipolar pulse. One mode is always associated with bright visible plasma on the emitting surface, while the other occurs with no visible emission. Emitted current wave forms are consistent with two distinct mechanisms for emission: surface plasma in the first case and polarization switching in the second. ©1997 American Institute of Physics.
