摘要:
Thin films of vanadium dioxide have been formed by reactive sputtering of vanadium in an argon atmosphere doped with a partial pressure of oxygen. The films were deposited on sapphire substrates held at 400°C and exhibit a highly oriented polycrystalline monoclinic structure at room temperature. The semiconductor to metal transition is observed at 345°K with a slight hysteresis with temperature reversal.

Parametric coupling between longitudinal ion waves and transverse electromagnetic waves in a plasma is studied. The possibilities of exciting ion waves and electron waves by means of this coupling mechanism are considered, and the growth rates are compared.

摘要:
Magnetic and optical data on single‐crystal RbNiF3are presented. We conclude that this material is ferrimagnetic, rather than antiferromagnetic as previously reported, with a transition temperature of 139°K and a saturation moment of 21 emu/g at 4.2°K. The basal plane is the preferred plane and the out‐of‐plane anisotropy is 106ergs/cc. The Faraday rotation measured along thecaxis at 77°K and 80% of magnetic saturation exhibits a peak value of 400° per cm at a wavelength of 4950 Å and values of 250° to 50° per cm in the region 5000 to 6000 Å where the optical absorption is lowest.

摘要:
A scanning electron microscope comparison of the microstructure of a P‐16 phosphor powder employing two independent modes, secondary emission, and cathodoluminescence, has been made. For the cathodoluminescent mode, high resolution and efficiency were obtained by a novel technique utilizing a flexible fiber optic rod. Secondary electron emission and cathodoluminescent micrographs of identical areas at 2400× are described.

摘要:
The external electroluminescent quantum efficiency at 25°C of GaPp‐njunctions grown by liquid‐phase epitaxy on solution‐grown substrates may be increased by as much as an order of magnitude by annealing, after growth, at temperatures in the range 400°C–725°C for times ∼16 hr. Typical efficiencies obtained range from 1–2%. TheI‐Vcharacteristic consists of two parallel components: a small tunneling current and a recombination current in the space charge region. The effect of annealing is to increase the efficiency in proportion to the decrease in current, at a given bias.

Solutions of several dyes of the fluorescein family have been made to exhibit stimulated emission in the visible when excited by ruby and neodymium second harmonics. Oscillation threshold and conversion efficiencies are given. Depolarization effects in the emission are described.

摘要:
Experimental results are presented concerning the interaction of a Nd laser beam with spin waves in YIG in the subsidiary absorption region. The microwave power was held below the threshold for spin‐wave instability. When hit by a laser beam, the sample showed characteristic magnetoelastic and relaxation oscillations. The same oscillations were observed without the laser beam if the microwave power was raised above the threshold for spin‐wave instability. The result provides evidence of spin‐wave excitation in YIG by a laser beam.
