摘要:
AbstractIt is essential for a lubricating oil blender to be able to quantify the contribution that each component entering in a formulation makes to the viscosity of the finished product. In this context several studies have been devoted to the modelling of the thickening power of different types of polymers at both high (100 °C and 40°C) and low (−15°C) temperature in base oils of various origins and viscosities. To complement these earlier investigations, it is necessary to quantify the effect of the additive package on the viscosity of the formulation. For this purpose, the effect of several DI packages of different performance levels has been investigated in order to derive appropriate mathematical models representing the contribution of these packages to oil visco

摘要:
AbstractThe design of lubricants has traditionally relied on the use of single dimension constitution / performance or structure / property relationships. In this paper a strategy is described whereby consideration is given to the inherent property / property (physical and chemical) correlations that exist for fluid lubricants. Progress towards the development of optimised lubricants is then achieved by identifying the molecular structural or compositional traits associated with ‘extensions’ to or ‘deviations’ from the mainstream correlations. Some examples of the success of this novel strategy will be provided, and the directions of its further refinement briefly o

摘要:
AbstractThe influence of lanthanum fluoride (LaF3) on the characteristics of phenolepoxy‐bonded MoS2dry films was investigated. The functional mechanism was specifically studied using several analytical means. The results showed that the wear life of dry films containing a certain amount of LaF3was considerably increased over that of the films without LaF3. However, the effect of LaF3on the friction coefficient of the dry films was shown to be negligible. It was found that the addition of LaF3is effective in reducing the oxidation tendency of MoS2in the films during the friction process. The reason for this is investigated by the author

摘要:
AbstractTribological behaviour of PTFE and graphited PTFE have been evaluated under lubricated conditions and compared with dry wear. The stress selected is in the range of 0.44 to 1.64 MPa, and the data generated are relevant to conformal contacts. Mineral oil lubrication can reduce wear of PTFE by one to two orders of magnitude. With graphited PTFE the lubricant effect is lower in comparison to that observed with PTFE. Specific wear rates are plotted on a histogram.

摘要:
AbstractFriction experiments are performed on lubricated concentrated contacts (LCCs) to obtain the transitions EHL‐ML and ML‐BL as a function of the operational conditions under which these contacts operate. A transition diagram is developed to determine the lubrication mode of an LCC as a function of the operational conditions. In this investigation the LCCs operated macroscopically in the lubricants' liquid state reg
