摘要:
ABSTRACTA class of linear models is developed in which activities are derived from transformations of each other and exogenous activities. The models are illustrated using spatial distributions of population and employment. Reduced forms are derived and the influence of different transformations on spatial model solutions is explored in terms of the balance of exogenous and endogenous variables, and through analysis of eigenstructures. Ten model types including the traditional Lowry model and Coleman's model of social exchange, are applied to an eight zone representation of Melbourne and the analysis is used to show how model solutions can be spatially independent of their inputs.

摘要:
ABSTRACTA set of models is developed to assess at the interdistrict level the relative importance of economic, demographic, social and government policy determinants of internal migration in Nepal. The first “proximate” model and the second “structural” model estimates are generated using ordinary least squares regression and specification error is investigated by spatial autocorrelation tests of the residuals of each model in its reduced form. These two models are developed to extract the important variables. Finally, to formalize and evaluate empirically the linkages between the “proximate” and “structural” determinants, a simultaneous equation model is developed using three stage generalized least squ

摘要:
ABSTRACTThis paper investigates the effect of a center‐down pattern of regional development on industrial labor absorption. Sectoral labor reallocation is analyzed in two less developed regions of Brazil with contrasting levels of development and linkage to the most developed region. Labor absorption performances are related to factor use characteristics and the mix of capital and labor intensive industries in each region. An empirical model is tested to determine the degree of interdependence between labor intensive industries in each region and its relation to labor absorptio

摘要:
ABSTRACTThe spatial division of labor and external economics associated with the nation's hierarchical system of cities are postulated to be part of the process involved in the spatial filtering of industrial development. In this process high labor costs in metropolitan areas cause less competitive industries to restructure their operations or be priced out of the larger labor markets. The industries priced out of the markets locate all or some of their operations in smaller settlements in more distant areas where labor costs are lower, given sufficient external economics. The research supports this general proposition but reveals differences based upon the types of industries and the location of their headquarter facilities. It also reveals significant differences in the locational patterns and site selection criteria of different types of plants established by local, national and foreign firms; these differences foster the development of spatially bifurcated or dual labor markets that are associated with regional city size distributions.

摘要:
ABSTRACTThe analysis of energy problems is limited by the lack of adequate statistics and instruments for energy analysis. The Commission of the European Communities, therefore, asked the Federal Statistical Office of the Federal Republic of Germany and the Ifo‐Institute for Economic Research in Munich to establish input‐output tables of energy flows. Relevant studies were simultaneously conducted in six other EEC countries (France, Italy, Belgium, Netherlands, United Kingdom and Denmark). This paper analyses the regional structure of energy flows in Europe. Empirical results are presented for the physical energy content (terajoule) and the energy costs (mill. DM) of commodities in France, Italy, Denmark, and the Federal Republic of Germany. In addition, it shows how mixed input‐output systems in physical and value units can be analysed with the general input‐output model. Mathematically, input‐output analysis can be regarded as a special statement of a linear programming model; here, the customary quantity and price models of input‐output analysis are transferred into a linear optimization model (general input‐output model) with a substantial gain of information for users. The objective is to analyse regional differences in energy production and energy use within the Europea

摘要:
AbstractIn this paper we present a methodology for comparing the adequacy of two or more models in terms of how well they represent a given data set. a set of interregional migration models is tested, including several variations of push‐pull models. Wilson's entropy maximizing model, a quadratic programing solution, and an ANOVA model. Testing is undertaken using a heuristic proccdure based on a pair by pair comparison of models to see which one best represents migration flows as estimated by the Census Bireau. The results of the pairwise testing are presented visually in a “matrix map” which allows us to illustrate the degree to which a perfect ordering of the comparison indices exists, and the degree to which individual models eluster tog

摘要:
ABSTRACTMany public facility location models have been developed using maximum service distance criteria. Most of these models can be classified as covering models. This paper expands on the notion of service coverage where the value of coverage is not a constant as in previous models. This varying coverage value when coupled with the Maximal Covering Location Problem yields a set of new models which are more complex but still tractable. These new models provide an approach that is sensitive to many of the issues found in public facility location. Both convex and nonconvex coverage functions are discussed along with their potential use in locating noxious activities.

摘要:
ABSTRACTThe economy of a small region is modeled as an eighteen equation system describing production, consumption, income distribution, factor supply, and a government sector. The government uses five different taxes independently to collect tax revenue equal to 20% of what land rents would be in an untaxed equilibrium. The revenue from each tax is redistributed to local residents according to five different plans. The distribution of the tax revenue, as well as the type of tax, generates distinct patterns of impacts on regional population, capital stock and production structure, wages, rents and incidence of the tax.

摘要:
ABSTRACTWe integrate into a neo‐classical multi‐period consumer choice model two new elements: (1) storage and holding activities within a household and (2) an “economic landscape” containing many stores at different distances from the house, that sell possibly different product lines at different prices. The theory leads to multipurpose shopping trips in the one‐household one‐store case. In the one‐household many‐store model, we prove the existence of optima by an enumeration argument. We describe an iterative maximization process that generates a cost‐minimizing “structure” of shopping trips. This “trip structure” defines a pattern of trips of different lengths to purchase different goods at relevant stores, so as to minimize the purchase and contextual (holding plus transport) cost of any level of consumption, with trip frequency and time‐spacing determine
