SUMMARY.The paper presents a broad overview of the major issues facing those responsible for facilities and services for children and young people with disabilities. The author was associated with an OBCD/CERI project on transition from school to adult and working life and the discussion arises from that international experience. The paper draws attention to the need for statutory and voluntary agencies to work towards agreed objectives and for policies on disability to be an integral part of policies for all children and young people

SUMMARY.In responding to the increasing professional recognition of child sexual abuse within the family, this paper, relating data from a clinical sample to epidemiological studies, is the first of a number devoted to experimental approaches being taken to identify and treat this problem. The author goes on to describe the multi‐disciplinary approach taken at the Tavistock Clinic and other treatment centres. The need for close cooperation and coordination of all professionals concerned and for the involvement of all family members in different forms of treatment is particularly emphasised. SUMMARY.Until very recently, little has been known about children's personal experiences of parental separation and divorce. Interviews with children from a representative sample of divorced families showed that they lacked information, that they suffered more distress than their parents realised, that their satisfaction with access was directly related to the speed with which it was arranged, and that relationships with custodial parents' new partners were similar to their relationships with absent parents

The use of both information and education within schools is discussed, particularly emphasising the need for schools and the community child health services to work closely together. SUMMARY.Family centres have multiplied in number of late but as yet analytical studies about them are few. In this paper the results are presented of interviews with the staff, users and ‘outsiders’ of three centres. From this it is possible to deduce three models of family centres.
