Summary1. The activities of succinic dehydrogenase, diaphorase and NADPH‐cytochrome c reductase in rat liver decrease with increasing age of the test animals.2. The NADH oxidation rate with and without addition of superoxide dismutase (SOD) also decreases with increasing age. The difference between the values without SOD and with SOD, which probably corresponds to the NADH oxidation produced by O2−radicals is high in the case of old animals.3. The concentrations of total glutathione and of GSH increases with increasing weight of the test animal.4. Possible control mechanisms of the glutathione concentration of liver tissue are discussed in relation to these parameters.ZusammenfassungFlavoproteine, Glutathion und NADH‐Oxidation in der Leber von Ratten unterschiedlichen Alters1. Die Aktivitäten der Succinodehydrogenase, Diaphorase und NADPH‐ Cytochrom‐c‐Reduktase der Rattenleber nehmen mit zunehmendem Alter der Versuchstiere ab.2. Die NADH‐Oxidation mit und ohne Zusatz von Superoxiddismutase wird ebenfalls mit zunehmendem Alter geringer.3. Summary1. In 120 g. rats, succinic dehydrogenase rises in the total liver homogenate and in isolated mitochondria up to the third day of starvation.2. Only on the first day of fasting is diaphorase in mitochondria at a higher level than the control value.3. Microsomal NADPH‐cytochrome c reductase increases in the total homogenate after fasting, but decreases in the post‐mitochondrial supernatant liquor.4. The questions which these results raise are discussed in relation to the use of different reference systems.ZusammenfassungEinfluß des Fastens auf die mitochondrialen und extramitochondrialen Flavoproteine1. Bis zum dritten Fastentag erhöht sich die Succinodehydrogenase im Totalleberhomogenat sowie in isolierten Mitochondrien.2. Die Mitochondrien‐Diaphorase ist nur am ersten Fastentag höher als bei den Kontrolltieren.3. Die mikrosomale NADPH‐Cytochrom‐c‐Reduktase erhöht sich nach dem Fasten im Totalhomogenat, nimmt jedoch im postmitochondrialen Überstand ab.4.
