ZusammenfassungUnter den Bedingungen des transarteriellen Verschlusses der Art. mes. sup. entwickelt sich langsam progredient ein ischämisch‐septisches Krankheitsbild. Hämo‐ und kardiodynamische, atemphysiologische, renale und metabolische Meßgrößen zeigen eine gleichmäßig fortschreitende Entgleisung der erfaßten Organfunktionen. Damit lassen die bishier vorliegenden Daten kein diagnostisches Leitmuster erkennen, das dem Internisten bzw. Chirurgen die augenblicklich jeweils optimale Therapie anzeigt. Zeichen der Hypovolämie und der Sepsis begleiten die Entwicklung der intestinalen Ischämie wie jede Form des Ileus, kennzeichnen also nicht eindeutig das ursprüngliche Trauma.Terminal bestimmen die ausgeprägte metabolische Azidose, Hyperkaliämie und Hypoglykämie das Krankheitsbild. Es kommt zum kaum reanimierbaren, hyperkaliämischem Herzstillstand.Die längste Überlebenszeit, hier Indikator für eine partiell protektive Therapie, wurde nach peripherem Gefäßverschluß unter Antibiotikaschutz erreicht. Die Unterdrückung der Septikämie erscheint für diese Wirkung ursächlich wahrscheinlich. Die Überlebenszeit nach zentralen, also aortennahen Arterienverschlüssen kann dagegen durch keinen der geprüften Therapieansätze (Antibiotika, Blutsubstitution, Plasmaexpander, Heparin, Kalikrein‐Trypsin‐Inhibitor) verlängert werden.SummaryThe ischaemic‐septic disease picture after acute blockade of the superior mesenteric artery in animal experiments II. Haemo‐ and cardio‐dynamics, lung, liver and kidney function, clotting, enzymology and metabolismAfter trans‐arterial occlusion of the superior mesenteric artery a slowly progressive condition of septic ischaemia develops. Hemo‐ and cardio‐dynamic, respiratory, renal and metabolic data show a concurrent progressive breakdown of the organ functions. The data obtained do not present any clinical sign of diagnostic value that would enable the physician or surgeon to undertake optimal treatment. Signs of hypovolemia and sepsis accompany the development of intestinal ischaemia as in all forms of ileus and so do not pinpoint the original trauma.The terminal phase is characterized by marked metabolic acidosis, hyperkaliemia and hypoglycaemia. A hardly resuscitable hyperkaliemic heart arrest intervenes.The longest survival time, indicative of partial protective therapy, was produced by antibiotic protection. Suppression of the septicaemia seemed possible by this means. Des mesures de dynamique sanguine et cardiaque, de physiologie respiratoires, rénales et métaboliques ont montré une dégradation progressive en fonction des organes atteints. Les données obtenues ne présentent aucun signe permettant à l'interniste ou au chirurgien d'entreprendre une thérapie optimale. Des signes d'hypovolémic et de septicémic accompagnent le développement de l'ischémie intestinale comme toute forme d'ileus et ne permettent pas de reconnaître nettement le traumatisme initial.La phase terminale est caractérisée par une acidose métabolique prononcée, un excès de potassium sanguin et une hypoglycémie. L'arrêt cardiaque dû à l'excès du potassium sanguin ne peut presque pas être rattrappé.Le temps de survie le plus long, indicateur ici d'une thérapie partiellement protectrice, fut atteint par une protection par antibiotiques après une occlusion vasculaire périphérique. Magnitudes de medida hemo y cardiodinámicas, respiratoriofisiológicas, renales y metabólicas muestran un descarrilamiento progresivo uniforme de las funciones orgánicas registradas. Con ello, los datos conocidos hasta ahora no permiten reconocer ningún modelo guía diagnóstico, el cual indicaría al internista resp. cirujano la terapéutica óptima actual en cada caso. Signos de hipervolemia y septicemia acompañan al desarrollo de la isquemia intestinal como cualquier forma de íleo, o sea que no caracterizan de manera evidente el trauma original.Determinan terminalmente el cuadro nosológico la acidosis metabólica acentuada, hiperpotasemia e hipoglucemia. Sobreviene la asistolia hipopotasémica, casi irreanimable.Se alcanzó el tiempo de supervivencia más largo, indicador aquí de una terapéutica protectora parcial, tras obturación vascular periférica bajo protección a base de antibióticos. ZusammenfassungDurch angiographische Untersuchungen am Präparat und intra vitam sowie durch experimentelle Untersuchungen sollte geklärt werden, ob beim Pferd als ätiologischer Faktor bei der Osteochondrosis dissecans im Talokruralgelenk an der kranialen Kante der Tibia (Processus coronoideus) umschriebene Durchblutungsstörungen in Frage kommen. In der distalen Hälfte der Tibia besteht ein fein verzweigtes System intraosseärer Gefäße. Insgesamt 4 nutritive Gefäße versorgen die distale Tibiaepiphyse. Diese Gefäße des epiphysären Systems anastomosieren untereinander und mit dem distal gerichteten Zweigen der A. nutricia tibiae des medullären Systems.Nach dem Ergebnis der Untersuchungen werden primäre Störungen der arteriellen Gefäßversorgung für die Entstehung der O. d. beim Pferd im Talokruralgelenk nicht angenommen.SummaryArteriographic studies on the distal tibial end in relation to the pathogenesis of Osteochondrosis dissecans in the horseAngiographic studies on prepared tissues andintra vitam, as well as experimental studies, were carried out to determine whether local vascular damage is concerned in the aetiology of Osteochondrosis dissecans in the tibio‐tarsal joint on the cranial border of the tibia (Processus coronoideus). In the distal half of the tibia is a finely branched system of intraosseous vessels. A total of 4 nutritive vessels supply the distal tibial epiphysis. These vessels of the epiphyseal system anastomose with one another and with the distally directed branches of the nutrient tibial artery of the medullary system.The results do not support the view that primary damage to the arterial supply is responsible for the development of Osteochondrosis dissecans in the tibio‐tarsal joint of the horse.RésuméRecherches artériographiques de la terminaison distale du tibia par rapport à la pathogenèse de l'Osteochondrosis dissecans chez le chevalLe but de cette recherche devait expliquer grâce à des examens angiographiques sur préparation, intra vitam et par des investigations expérimentales si des troubles circulatoires circonscrits entraient en ligne de compte comme facteur étiologique lors d'Osteochondrosis dissecans dans l'articulation talo‐cruriale au bord cranial du tibia (Processus coronoideus). SummaryFormalin‐preserved buffalo dura mater was used to replace the anterior third of the bladder wall in 12 dogs. The graft acted as a resorbable prosthetic. Areas of increased soft tissue density in the region of the graft were demonstrated radiographically and these had gradually diminished by the 90th day. Calculus in the bladder was observed at 60 days and later, in 3 dogs where grafts were completely resorbed.Resorption of the graft occurred by both exudation and phagocytosis. Proliferation of transitional epithelium had not covered the defect by the end of the observation period (90 days).ZusammenfassungExperimentelle Harnblasenplastik beim Hund mittels formalinkonservierter Dura mater von BüffelnAls Ersatz des kranialen Drittels der Harnblasenwand bei 12 Hunden wurde die formalinkonservierte Dura mater von Büffeln verwendet. Die Transplantate fungierten als resorbierbares Prothesematerial. Im Gebiet des Transplantates wurden röntgenologisch Stellen größerer Dichte aus faserreichem Bindegewebe festgestellt, welche innerhalb 90 Tagen allmählich zurückgingen. Nach 60 Tagen und später wurden bei 3 Hunden, deren Transplantate vollständig resorbiert waren, in der Harnblase Konkremente festgestellt. Die Transplantate wurden sowohl durch Verflüssigung als auch Phagozytose resorbiert. Nach 90 Tagen, d. h. am Ende der Beobachtungszeit, zeigte das Transplantat keine Epithelisierung.RésuméPlastique expérimentale de la vessie chez le chien avec une Dura mater de buffle conservée à la formalineLa Dura mater de buffles conservée au formol a été utilisée pour remplacer le tiers cranial de la paroi vésicale chez 12 chiens. La transplantation se basait sur un matériel de prothèse résorbable. On a constaté aux rayons X dans la région de la transplantation des emplacements d'une couche plus épaisse riche en fibres conjonctives qui s'est peu à peu résorbée en l'espace de 90 jours. Des concréments ont été constatés dans la vessie après 60 jours et plus chez 3 chiens dont les greffes étaient complètement résorbées. Les transplantations furent résorbées aussi bien par liquéfaction que par phagocytose. Après 90 jours, à la fin du temps d'observation, la transplantation n'a présenté aucune épithélisation.ResumenPlástica experimental de la vejiga de la orina en el perro mediante duramadre de búfalo conservada en formolComo substitución del tercio craneal de la pared de la vejiga de la orina se emplearon en 12 perros las duramadres de búfalos conservadas en formol. Los injertos actuaban como material resorbible de prótesis. En la región del injerto se apreciaron lugares radiológicos de densidad mayor de tejido conectivo rico en fibras, los cuales retrocedían de forma gradual en el plazo de 90 días. Tras 60 días y más adelante se comprobó en 3 perros, cuyos injertos habían sido resorbidos por completo, la existencia de concrementos en la vejiga de la orina. Zusammenfassung32 Fleckviehkühe wurden nach Milchmenge, Milchfettgehalt, Laktations‐ und Trächtigkeitsstadium sowie Zahl der Laktationen in 2 Gruppen eingeteilt. Bei Carotin‐ und Vitamin‐A‐armen Grundfutter (etwa 130 mg β‐Carotin/Tier und Tag) erhielt eine Gruppe pro Tier täglich 116 000 I. E. Vitamin A, die andere 340 mg β‐Carotin, jeweils über ein Mineralfutter verabreicht. Nach einer 4monatigen Hauptperiode wurden während einer 2monatigen Nachperiode ohne Supplementierung bei ausschließlich Weidegang weitere Werte gewonnen.Die zusätzliche β‐Carotinversorgung erhöhte die β‐Carotinkonzentration im Blutplasma signifikant. Bei Weidegang waren die β‐Carotinspiegel im Blut gegenüber der „Stallfütterung” auf das 4‐ bis 5fache erhöht. Die Vitamin‐A‐Gehalte im Blutplasma waren bei Vitamin‐A‐ und β‐Carotin‐Supplementierung gleich. Im Bereich niedriger β‐Carotinkonzentrationen im Blut besteht eine positive Korrelation zu den Vitamin‐A‐Blutspiegeln. Bei β‐Carotin‐Blutspiegeln über 120 μg / 100 ml steigt der Vitamin‐A‐Gehalt nicht mehr an. Etwa eine Woche vor dem Kalben fällt sowohl der Carotin‐ wie auch der Vitamin‐A‐Blutspiegel ab. Am Kalbetag beträgt er nur etwa zwei Drittel der Ausgangswerte. Die vollständige Normalisierung erfolgt erst nach einigen Wochen.SummaryStudies on the supply of milk cows with ß‐carotene and vitamin A 1. Effect on blood levelsThirty‐two Fleckvieh cows were divided into two groups on the basis of milk yield, milk fat content and stage of lactation and pregnancy, as well as number of lactations. With a basal diet poor in carotene and vitamin A (about 130 mg. β‐carotene per animal per day), one group received daily 116,000 i. u. vitamin A, the other got 340 mg. β‐carotene, and both received a mineral supplement. After a 4 months main period there was a two months period at pasture with no supplementation.Adding β‐carotene raised significantly the β‐carotene level in the plasma. At pasture the β‐carotene level in blood, compared with stall feeding, was 4–5 times as high. The vitamin A level in plasma was the same with vitamin A as with β‐carotene supplementation. With lower β‐carotene levels in blood there was a positive correlation with the vitamin A blood picture. At β‐carotene blood levels over 120 μg / 100 ml. the vitamin A level showed no further rise. About a week before calving, both the carotene and vitamin A levels in blood fell. On the day of calving it was only about two‐thirds of the previous level. Complete return to normal took a few weeks.RésuméRecherches sur l'approvisionnement des vaches laitières en carotène ß et vitamine A Communication 1: Influence sur le taux sanguin32 vaches tachetées ont été réparties en 2 groupes en fonction de la quantité de lait, du taux de graisse dans le lait, du stade de lactation et de gestation et du nombre de lactations. A un aliment de base pauvre en carotène et en vitamina A (environ 130 mg carotène β / animal / jour), on a ajouté en plus d'un aliment minéralisé, 116 000 U. I. de vitamine A / animal / jour pour un groupe et 340 mg carotène β pour l'autre groupe. Après une «période principale» de 4 mois, on a récolté d'autres valeurs durant une «période suivante» de 2 mois sans supplémentation lors d'un pâturage exclusif.L'approvisionnement supplémental en carotène β a augmenté la concentration du carotène β dans le plasma sanguin de façon significative. Le taux de carotène β dans le sang fut augmenté de 4 à 5 fois lors de la pâture par rapport à la «période d'étable». Les taux de vitamine A dans le plasma sanguin furent égaux lors d'un approvisionnement en vitamine A et carotène β. Il y a corrélation positive dans les valeurs basses des concentrations de carotène β dans le sang avec le taux sanguin de vitamine A. Le taux de vitamine A n'augmente plus avec un taux sanguin de carotène β au‐dessus de 120 μg / 100 ml. Le taux sanguin de vitamine A et de carotène s'abaisse une semaine avant la mise‐bas. Ce taux atteint seulement environ les deux‐tiers des valeurs de départ le jour du vêlage. The level fall sharply after parturition and continues to fall slowly during lactation. SummaryThe indigenous fowl of Nigeria was crossed with the White Rock and Rhode Island Red breeds and was also upgraded with (or backcrossed to) the Rhode Island Red for three subsequent generations (F2—F4). The F1of White Rock or Rhode Island Red and the indigenous fowl manifested heterosis of 4.1–12.4% in the 12 week body weight, 0.0–8.8% in feed conversion ratio, and −1.6 to −6.6% in mortality. Heterosis was of unequal magnitude in the reciprocal crossbreds. Upgrading of the indigenous fowl caused a progressive resemblance in growth rate and in keel and shank lengths, between F3and F4and Rhode Island Red to the extent of gene substitution. Since complete gene substitution cannot be achieved, the improved birds cannot be equal to or superior to the R. I. R. breed.ZusammenfassungKreuzungs‐ und Veredlungszucht von einheimischen Hühnern in Nigeria mit HochzuchtrassenEinheimische Nigeriahühner wurden mit White Rock und Rhode Island Red gekreuzt sowie während 3 aufeinanderfolgenden Generationen (F2—F4) mit Rhode Island Red zurückgekreuzt bzw. veredelt. Die White Rock und Rhode Island Red F1‐Generationen zeigten folgende Heterosis‐Effekte: 4,1 bis 12,4% hinsichtlich der wöchentlichen Zunahme des Körpergewichtes, 0,0 bis 8,8% hinsichtlich der Futterverwertung und −1,6 bis −6,6% hinsichtlich der Mortalität. Bei den reziproken Kreuzungen war die Heterosis ganz verschieden. Die Veredelungszucht des einheimischen Geflügels bewirkte eine sukzessive Angleichung der F3‐ und F4‐Generation an die Rhode Island Red bezüglich der Gewichtszunahme, der Brustbeingröße und der Schenkellänge. SummarySome of the normal haematological parameters of Nigerian piglets from one day up to four weeks and kept under intensive management were determined. The thrombocyte counts in thousands/cmm. blood were 524 ± 94 for one‐day‐old piglets; 630 ± 114 for one‐week‐old; 717 ± 132 for two‐weeks‐old and 710 ± 135 for four‐weeks‐old. SummaryThe progesterone concentrations in the peripheral blood plasma of pregnant goats of mixed breeds were measured during late pregnancy (from 90 days) by radioimmunoassay. ResumenSe realizó un estudio estadístico de la relación entre las variables perímetro torácico y alzada con respecto al peso, para estimar el peso vivo de caballos carretoneros. Empleando el método de mínimos cuadrados se determinó las ecuaciones de las rectas de regresión para la población total y para ésta separada por sexos. Se determinó, además, la ecuación del plano de regresión de la variable peso sobre el perímetro torácico y la alzada. Se calcularon los coeficientes de correlación total, múltiple y parcial concluyéndose que el plano de regresión y el perímetro torácico son los que permiten una mejor predicción del peso. No se justifica el estudio separado por sexos.ZusammenfassungÜber die Beziehungen zwischen Körpergewicht und Brustumfang bei Zugpferden in Valdivia (Chile)Zur Schätzung des Körpergewichtes wurde dessen Relation zum Brustumfang und Stockmaß untersucht, wobei das Geschlecht und Alter der Tiere mitberücksichtigt wurden. Zur Bestimmung der Gleichung der Regressionsgeraden wurde die Methode der kleinsten Quadrate angewandt. Außerdem wurde der Korrelationskoeffizient für jede Gerade ermittelt. Zudem wurde die Regressionsfläche des Gewichtes über Brustumfang und Stockmaß berechnet. Diese Berechnungen wurden durch die Ermittlung des multiplen und partiellen Korrelationskoeffizienten ergänzt.Folgerungen: 1. Die Regressionsfläche und der Brustumfang erlauben die genaueste Schätzung des Körpergewichtes. 2. Das Geschlecht muß dabei nicht berücksichtigt werden.SummaryDescriptive study of the relationship between body weight and thoracic circumference in draught horses in Valdivia (Chile)For estimation of body weight the relationship between thoracic circumference and height was examined, whereby sex and age of the animals was also taken into account. The method of smallest squares was used to determine the equation for the regression line. In addition the correlation coefficient for each line was determined. The regression area of weight with thoracic circumference and height was calculated. These calculations were extended by the use of multiple and partial correlation coefficients.The results show that the regression area and thoracic circumference allow the most exact estimation of body weight and that sex need not be taken into account.RésuméEtude de la relation entre le poids corporel et le périmètre thoracique chez le cheval de trait en Valdivia (Chili)La relation entre le périmètre thoracique et la hauteur par rapport au poids a été étudiée pour estimer le poids vif d'un cheval. Le sexe et l'âge ont également été pris en considération. On a utilisé la méthode du plus petit carré pour déterminer l'équation de la droite de régression.
