摘要:
This paper summarizes the results of the working group on Lattice Design at the 1990 Berkeley conference on Beam Dynamics of high luminosity asymmetric collider rings. The goal of this group was to compare the various schemes and concepts in the B‐factory designs which was studied and investigated in various accelerator laboratories. The crucial aspect of the lattice design is the layout of the interaction region. (AIP)

摘要:
This report summarizes the discussions and conclusions of the Working Group on Beam‐Beam Effects during the Workshop on Beam Dynamics Issues of High‐Luminosity Asymmetric Collider Rings, held at the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory, Berkeley CA, USA, from 12 to 16 February 1990. The discussions were organized around four topics: (i) The relative advantages of round beams compared to flat beams, (ii) Energy transparency which deals with the question of which beam parameters have to be made equal although the beam energies are different in the two rings, (iii) The simulation of the beam‐beam effect, (iv) Experiments in existinge+e−colliders to check the design concepts for future asymmetric colliders. The overall conclusions arrived at by the working group can be found at the end.

摘要:
This paper summarizes the results of the working group on technology at the 1990 Berkeley Conference on beam dynamics of high luminosity asymmetric collider rings. The topics addressed were a conceptual design of the RF system, RF cavity design, a power limit for both cavities and RF windows, beam‐feedback for controlling beam growth, and a new crab cavity design. 摘要:
Presently at many High Energy Physics laboratories including CORNELL, SLAC, CERN, DESY, KEK and Novosibirsk design studies for a high luminosity 10 GeV e+e−machine are being carried out. This large effort documents a wide consensus in the importance and interest in continued B‐physics. Measurements of the Z0—pole have shown, that there are probably no more than 3 generations of quarks. The t—quark, once found, will immediately decay into a b—quark and will not provide any new information. Thus the b—quark will remain the only tool for precise studies of the weak interaction for ever.

摘要:
In this talk presented at the 1990 Berkeley conference on beam dynamics issues of asymmetric Collider rings the emphasis is placed on the design of the collider lattice. Topics considered are head‐on collisions vs. crab crossings, round vs. flat beams, separation direction, i.e., both horizontal and vertical or horizontal or vertical, and separation by dipoles or by shifted quadrupoles. 摘要:
The design of a high‐luminosity electron‐position collider to study B physics is a challenging task from many points of view. In this paper we consider the influence of collective effects on the machine performance; most of our findings are ‘‘generic,’’ in the sense that they depend rather weakly on the details of the machine design. Both single‐bunch and coupled‐bunch instabilities are described and their effects are estimated based upon an example machine design (APIARY‐IV). In addition, we examine the possibility of emittance growth from intrabeam scattering and calculate the beam lifetime from both Touschek and gas scattering. We find that the single‐bunch instabilities should not lead to difficulty, and that the emittance growth is essentially negligible. At a background gas pressure of 10 nTorr, beam lifetimes of only a few hours are expected. Multibunch growth rates are very severe, even when using an optimized RF system consisting of single‐cell, room‐temperature RF cavities with geometrical shapes typical of superconducting cavities. Thus, a powerful feedback system will be required. In terms of collective effects, it does not appear that there are any fundamental problems standing in the way of successfully designing and building a high‐luminosity B factory.

摘要:
This paper presents a general theory of the beam‐beam limit in symmetric and asymmetric lepton ring colliders. It shows how the beam‐beam limit in these accelerators affects the maximum attainable luminosity and presents a specific algorithm for parameter base optimization. It is shown that the special problems inherent in asymmetric colliders derive not from the asymmetry, but from the fact that the two beams must be in different rings. Computer simulation experiments are used to demonstrate the various phenomena discussed in the theory.
