摘要:
We report three main progresses we made in 1992: The magnetic structure of the lattice was modified in order to increase the following factor of the main dipoles in the regular cells. The tolerances on the field quality of the guiding magnet were investigated with long‐term computer tracking simulations as well as with experiments performed at the SPS. Additional studies were performed to speed up the simulations using truncated maps, to propose phenomenological descriptions of the diffusive behavior in the transverse phase spaces, and to obtain a deeper insight into the nonlinear motion in the case of dynamical systems as simple as the He´non map. This paper will attempt to summarize the activities related to accelerator simulation at the SSC laboratory during the recent past. Operational simulations including injection, extraction, and correction, performance prediction of a specified lattice design, in particular, the effect of higher‐order multipoles on linear aperture and the effect of power supply ripple on emittance growth in the collider, and lastly, the development and application of advanced techniques to particle tracking, e.g., parallel processing and mapping techniques will be discussed in this paper.

摘要:
The long‐range Fermilab program requires fully capitalizing on the world’s highest energy accelerator, the Tevatron, throughout the decade of the 90’s. The program calls for increasing the collider luminosity with each successive run until peak luminosities of ≳5×1031cm−2s−1and integrated luminosities of ≳100 pb−1per run are achieved, effectively doubling the mass range accessible for discovery. If the quark lies at the upper range of the mass of the Tevatron, then increasing the energy of the collider operation could prove to be a crucial factor in the future program as well. In order to achieve these goals, we present a highly challenging upgrade of the present accelerator complex, called Fermilab III. In order to increase this performance level by a factor of 50, many changes are needed. Such a plan, of necessity, has modifications in almost all areas of the accelerator as the present system is reasonably optimized. (AIP)

A total of 36 workshop participants attended at least one session of the Long‐Term Stability working group. We avoided turning these sessions into a specialized seminar series by meeting in two subgroups, loosely labeled Analysis and Diffusion and Tracking, so that working discussions among a resonably small number of people were possible. Nonetheless, no attempt is made to categorize the 13 group B papers according to original subgroup. (AIP)

摘要:
In this paper we present the proposed scheme for reducing the nonlinear chromaticity of the collider in the collision mode. Briefly, the optics of the collider lattice with special emphasis on the interaction regions which are the main sources of chromaticity are discussed. Then, a theoretical calculation of the second‐order chromaticity in a storage ring is discussed. Next we focus on the second‐order tune shift due to the triplets, the domain sources of chromaticity in the interaction regions. The fifth topic is the theory behind our proposed scheme for correcting higher‐order chromaticity. The last concerns of this paper are evaluation of the chromatic performance of the proposed scheme and the effect of the chromaticity‐correcting sextupoles on the dynamics aperture. (AIP)
