摘要:
The mean‐free‐path for inelastic interactions of 200 GeV protons in nuclear emulsion has been measured using the techniques of along‐the‐track scanning and area scanning. The results obtained are, respectively,&lgr;inel = 35.3 ± 1.0 cmand&lgr;inel = 33.1 ± 1.5 cm. The average charged multiplicities have been found to be〈ns〉 = 8.2 ± 0.2for ‘white’ stars and〈ns〉 = 12.9 ± 0.15for all events. A plot of nsversus Nh(where Nhis the number of black and grey tracks) shows a linear relation over the region0 ≤ Nh ≤ 25. The Castagnoli method applied to ‘white’ stars overestimates the C.M. energy by ∼ 40%, however, for stars withNh ≥ 1, there is good agreement.

摘要:
We present preliminary results from a sample of 127 proton‐nucleon inelastic interactions found by following 271 meters of track length in nuclear emulsions which were exposed to 200 GeV proton beam at N.A.L. Castagnoli's method of determining the primary energy from angular distribution of the secondary particles is checked. The multiplicity distribution parameters, i.e., 〈nch&rang, D and f, are calculated. The prong distribution from 2 to 20 tracks is found to be broader than a Poisson's distribution.

摘要:
Preliminary results of an experiment on large transverse momentum phenomena performed at the CERN‐ISR at centre‐of‐mass energies of 52.7 and 44.8 GeV are presented. The topics studied were the inclusive reactionp+p⇒&pgr;o+“anything”, where the &pgr;owas emitted around 90° in the centre‐of‐mass system, (&pgr;o&pgr;o) correlations, and the charged multiplicity associated with large transverse momentum &pgr;o's. In addition, results of a search for electrons and electron pairs are included.

摘要:
We report measurements of inclusive particle production at large angles in proton‐proton collisions at the CERN Intersecting Storage Rings (ISR).Three different sets of results are presented: 1. Data on the inclusive production of &pgr;±, K±, p, andp, at low transverse momenta over an angular range of 29° to 90° in the centre‐of‐mass system and for centre‐of‐mass energies&sqrt;s = 31 and 53 GeV. 2. Results from a search for massive particles at 62.5° in the laboratory,&sqrt;s = 53GeV‐‐ in particular, cross‐sections for the production of deuterons and antideuterons are given. 3. Data on inclusive charged particle production (no particle identification) of high transverse momentum pTbetween 1.5 and 4.4 GeV/c, at centre‐of‐mass angles 59.4° and 90°,&sqrt;s = 44 and 53 GeV. In addition, preliminary measurements have been made at&sqrt;s = 31 and 44 GeVof &pgr;±, K±, p, andpproduction ratios at 90° for pTbetween 2.0 and 3.5 GeV/c. The (K++ p)/&pgr; ratio is given down topT = 1.4 GeV/c.

摘要:
This is a report of the preliminary results of our exploratory experiment at the CERN ISR on the search for multigamma events in proton‐proton collisions. In this experiment we have observed an overwhelmingly large number of multigamma events especially at high multiplicities. The preliminary results also show a prominent peak in the energy distribution of the individual &ggr; rays as measured by the 3‐radiation lengths thick lead glass Cerenkov counters under the present triggering conditions.

摘要:
Results are presented on the production of charged partiles at small c.m. angles in proton‐proton collisions at the CERN ISR. Scaling features are emphasized for produced particles &pgr;, K,p. The inelastic proton spectra show features associated with diffractive excitation. This interpretation is supported by two‐particle correlation measurements.

摘要:
The multiplicity distribution of charge particles, &sgr;n/&sgr;inel, produced in the reaction p+p−n+ anything, has been measured at the ISR at four centre‐of‐mass energies (23, 30.5, 45, and 53 GeV) over the rapidity intervaly* = 1−4.3in one hemisphere. The expression 〈n〉. &sgr;n/&sgr;inelis found to be a function of n/ 〈n〉 alone and not of s. The limiting distribution is discussed in connection with correlation among secondaries of high‐energy collisions.

摘要:
Differential cross sections for the inclusive production of high energy neutral pions in the reactions&pgr;±p ⇒ &pgr;oXhave been measured at an incident&pgr;±laboratory momentum of 14 GeV/c. The measurements were made at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center using two large NaI(Tl) &ggr; ray spectrometers. The kinematic region covered is approximately0.2 ≤ x ≤ 1and0 ≤ Q ≤ 0.7 GeV/c. The differential inclusive cross sections for incident&pgr;+ and &pgr;−are found to be approximately equal to each other and, forx > 0.5, to be about 30% of the inclusive cross section for&pgr;−p ⇒ &pgr;−X. Forx < 0.3the inclusive &pgr;oand &pgr;−cross sections approach equality.

摘要:
Data are presented on single particle distributions from the inclusive reactions &pgr;+p⇒&pgr;+… and &pgr;+p⇒p+… carried out at 10.0 and 15.5 GeV/c. All four pion charge combinations were studied at both energies. Data are available forx≥0and for transverse momenta up to 0.9 GeV/c. Positive identification of final state particles was accomplished with a Cerenkov counter and time of flight system. Production angles and momentum were measured with spark chambers, proportional chamber and a large aperture magnet.
