摘要:
Tests of the electroweak theory are becoming precise enough to shed light on new physics which contributes to radiative corrections. It is shown how the top quark and Higgs masses and other possible features of new physics are sensitive to each experiment and a framework is given for judging the potential impact of new tests. Remarks are made on present and future constraints on quark mixing parameters and on gauge couplings ofWbosons.

摘要:
Three of the simplest nuclear reactions−1) electron‐deuteron elastic scattering, 2) electro‐disintegration of the deuteron near threshold and at high momentum transfer, and 3) photodisintegration of the deuteron at high energy−were believed to have unique signatures for QCD effect in nuclei. The progress in the past few years with regard to these reactions will be traced and the results will be compared with recent theoretical predictions.

The paper summarizes recent activities in low energy muon physics with a special emphasis on 1) &mgr;SR studies on highTcsuperconductor, 2) thermal muonium in vacuum, 3) muon catalyzed fusion and 4) repolarization of the negative muon. Also, a status of the ultra‐slow muon facility as well as perspective for a new accelerator plan is presented.

Concerns have been raised over the possibility that weak 60 Hz electromagnetic fields are carcinogenic and leukegenic. An examination of the physical interaction of such fields with the body shows that on the cell level such interactions are much smaller than thermal noise and, hence, cannot generate significant biological effects.

A review is given of the experimental measurements of the elastic electric and magnetic form factors of the proton and neutron. Prospects for ongoing and future experiments are examined. Special emphasis is given to a recent SLAC experiment which approximately doubled theQ2range over which the proton and neutron form factors have been separated.

I review and update a previous analysis of non‐quark‐model mesons. I find that there are several interesting states that cannot be accounted for by the quark model. These including thef0(1590), most likely a glueball; the &eegr;(1460),f1(1420) andf2(1720) which are all prominent inJ/&psgr; radiative decays, but which have not been classified; and the exoticM(1406), which, with the &rgr;(1480), may be aP‐wave 4‐quark state.

摘要:
Recent results from the Asterix and Crystal Barrel experiments at CERN/LEAR are reviewed. Two new isoscalar mesons have been observed in the 1500–1600 MeV mass range. Proton‐antiproton annihilation into two neutral mesons has been investigated. The production of &fgr; mesons is discussed in the context of a possible violation of the OZI rule.
