摘要:
We address the propagation and kinetic roughening of a liquid-gas interface moving through a disordered medium under the influence of capillary forces. The system is described by a phase-field model with conserved dynamics, and spatial disorder is introduced through a quenched random field. Liquid conservation leads to slowing down of the average interface positionHand imposes an intrinsic correlation length&xgr;x∼H1/2on the spatial fluctuations of the interface. ©2000 American Institute of Physics.

Recently there has been much interest in physical phenomena in highway traffic flow [1]. In particular, the effect of in-flux from an on-ramp has been considered and several dynamic states are predicted using continuum traffic equations [2,3]. In this paper, we review findings of a recent empirical study [4], which appear to support theoretical predictions, and present a preliminary phase diagram of congested traffic flow. ©2000 American Institute of Physics.

摘要:
We show new kinds of spatiotemporal evolution of pulses by computer simulations of an excitable reaction diffusion system. In one dimensional simulations, we observe self-replication of a traveling pulse and a breathing pulse. For suitably chosen parameters, the spatiotemporal pattern exhibits a self-similar regular pattern like a Sierpinsky gasket. ©2000 American Institute of Physics.

摘要:
Magnetic impurity effects in carbon nanotubes are studied theoretically. The multi channel Kondo effect is investigated with the band structure of the metallic nanotubes. The local non-Fermi liquid behavior is realized at temperatures lower than the Kondo temperatureTK.The density of states of localized electron has a singularity∼|&ohgr;|1/2which gives rise to a pseudo gap at the Kondo resonance in low temperatures. The temperature dependence of the electronic resistivity is predicted asT1/2,and the imaginary part of dynamical susceptibilities has the|&ohgr;|1/2dependence. ©2000 American Institute of Physics.

摘要:
The surface structure and vacancy formation during the growth of thin film have been studied with use of a kinetic Monte Carlo method. By extending Solid-on-Solid model to a model which allows vacancies to form in the film, we investigated both the surface structure and the void structure, and interrelation between them. It is shown that point defects appear in the film when the surface has a layer structure, while large voids consisting of more than one vacant site are formed when the surface becomes rough. The spatial distribution of vacancies is closely related to the surface structure. ©2000 American Institute of Physics.

摘要:
We have proposed a new traffic flow simulation model, Coupled Map traffic flow model based on Optimal Velocity functions (CMOV model). By introducing stochastic lane-changing rules, the model is improved to treat two lane roads with entranceways. Some characteristics in multi-lane expressways, such as the lane-usage ratio and the flow correlation between lanes, are observed by simulations and compared with observations in Tomei expressway. ©2000 American Institute of Physics.
