摘要:
There is a long history of standard H. & E. staining for pathological diagnostic samples, where the organism is fixed with formaldehyde. However, one should not be neglect that the pathological diagnostic sample has an artificial, secondary protein structure, differing from the structure of just frozen‐sectioned organism. We observed quantitatively the cholesterol distribution in the atheroma of a frozen‐section of autopsied aorta by imaging, for the first time, using the Fourier transform infrared microscopy (FT‐IRM) technique. We detected the cholesterol distribution and found that the protein structure changed to a &bgr;‐sheet conformation, from an &agr;‐helix conformation on the inside edge of the calcified area. © 2004 American Institute of Physics

摘要:
Clinical trials of hyperthermia in combination with radiation therapy or chemotherapy undertaken over the past decades in Japan have been reviewed. Originally developed heating devices were mostly used for these trials, which include RF (radiofrequency) capacitive heating devices, a microwave heating device with a lens applicator, an RF intracavitary heating device, an RF current interstitial heating device, and ferromagnetic implant heating device. Non‐randomized trials for various cancers, demonstrated higher response rate in thermoradiotherapy than in radiotherapy alone. Randomized trials undertaken for esophageal cancers also demonstrated improved local response with the combined use of hyperthermia. Furthermore, the complications associated with treatment were not generally serious. These clinical results indicate the benefit of combined treatment of hyperthermia and radiotherapy for various malignancies. On the other hand, the presently available heating devices are not satisfactory from the clinical viewpoints. With the advancement of heating and thermometry technologies, hyperthermia will be more widely and safely used in the treatment of cancers. © 2004 American Institute of Physics

摘要:
Author has given an interpretation of quantum mechanics in totally new approach named Dialogue Principle. Author point out how similar is the living phenomena and human behavior to the movement of elementary particles, if we agree with that the wave function implies the existing probability of elementary particles in the topological space. In the dialogue principle, the reasons for this similarity is explained by introducing common concept “character” and “will” among living specimens as well as elementary particles. Author describes that “will” is the origin of all strange behavior among elementary particles as well as human beings. “Will” is the subject of 21st Century to be studied scientifically. Author proposes that the concept of “will” should be added to the base of modern science to gives unified understanding of all existence including elementary particles, human beings, and universe. In this paper the digest of the dialogue principle is given, and approaches to the meaning of life by the philosophy of quantum mechanics. © 2004 American Institute of Physics

摘要:
The construction of the tabletop synchrotron MIRRORCLE‐6X is completed. The electron beam current extracted from the 6‐MeV Microtron injector is reached 100 mA with 500 ns pulse duration and 400 Hz repetition rate. The measured main magnetic field distribution of the synchrotron showed good agreement with calculation. We found that the 6‐MeV electron beam can be injected from the designed injection port to the synchrotron with 20 mm⋅mrad acceptance according to the computer simulation using measured magnetic fields. © 2004 American Institute of Physics

摘要:
We derive the theory of mode locking phenomena in the novel type of the free electron laser called Photon Storage Ring (PhSR). We found the electron beam parameters for which the mode locking appears. We examine the characteristics of the pulse mode regime and outline the possibility of the femtosecond pulse generation. We also present the current status of the PhSR experimental investigations. © 2004 American Institute of Physics

We have developed the computer code “RTR1.0” for intensity calculations of the Resonance Transition Radiation produced by high‐energy electrons crossing the multi‐layer‐films target. 摘要:
A laboratory‐scale hard X‐ray microscope utilizing the portable synchrotron named MIRRORCLE‐6X is developed in our laboratory. MIRRORCLE‐6X is a X‐ray source suitable for hard X‐ray microscopy as a result of the X‐ray source size of the order of micron, and highly brilliant hard X‐rays. Furthermore, when effective focusing elements of hard X‐rays are used for MIRRORCLE‐6X, this machine could be used for non destructive inspection with high resolution of biological and engineering. We designed hard X‐ray optical elements for MIRRORCLE6X and started fabricating X‐ray mirrors. © 2004 American Institute of Physics

摘要:
Brilliant hard X‐rays are produced by the portable synchrotron named MIRRORCLE. The X‐ray images taken by MIRRORCLE show enhanced edge effect even with contact imaging. Bodies composed of soft tissues are distinguished in spite of the predominantly hard X‐ray components. The imaging mechanism, which is different from the phase contrast, was studied. It was found that the edge effect is partly due to the micron order x‐ray source spot size, and MeV region hard X‐rays. The characteristic of the medical diagnosis X‐ray images and nondestructive inspection X‐ray images taken by MIRRORCLE are studied in this paper. © 2004 American Institute of Physics

摘要:
X‐Ray fluorescence analysis of five heavy elements (Pb, Pt, W, Sn, and Ag) was performed using the portable synchrotron MIRRORCLE‐20. The characteristic K X‐rays (K&agr; and K&bgr;) were clearly observed for all of the five samples. This verifies that MRRORCLE‐20 generates X‐rays of energy higher than that of the Pb K absorption edge (88.0 keV). In addition to these characteristic K X‐rays, several peaks with short lifetimes were also observed in all the samples. © 2004 American Institute of Physics

摘要:
We have evaluated the absorption dose by simulation in a phantom irradiated by the X‐ray from the 6MeV electron synchrotron MIRRORCLE‐6X. Comparison with the dose by the X‐ray from a 100keV X‐ray tube was made. It shows that the averaged dose integrated over the phantom to make one flame of the X‐ray image in the case of MIRRORCLE‐6X is much smaller than that in the case of the X‐ray. We have also measured the dose using MIRRORCLE‐6X under the various conditions. We could confirmed this results experimentally by observing dose at the surface, although it was slightly higher than expected. © 2004 American Institute of Physics
