Pion and proton diffraction dissociation are observed in &pgr;−p interactions at 205 GeV/c. The 2‐ and 4‐prong final states show evidence for N*and A1production. Pion diffraction into masses up to ∼ 6 GeV is observed in the inclusive reaction&pgr;−p ⇒ p + X.

This report presents a brief summary of the study of diffractive fragmentation in pp collisions as observed in the NAL bubble‐chamber experiments. Missing mass, effective mass, and secondary particle rapidity distributions permit a) the study of the multiplicity and t dependences of the diffractive process at high energy, b) the measurement of the cross section for the reactionpp ⇒ pp&pgr;+ &pgr;−, and c) an estimate of an upper limit for the double Pomeron exchange contribution to the pp&pgr;+&pgr;−final state at 205 GeV/c.

Preliminary results on the reactionpp ⇒ p + Xfrom an exposure of the NAL 30 inch liquid hydrogen bubble chamber are presented. Single particle inclusive distributions are discussed and compared with corresponding data at 102 GeV/c.

We have measured the s, t and x dependence of the invariant cross section for the inclusive reactionp + p ⇒ p + Xin the region108 < s < 752 GeV2,0.14 < ∣ t ∣ < 0.38 GeV2and0.80 < x < 0.93. The data were taken during the acceleration ramp of the National Accelerator Laboratory machine using the internal H2jet target facility.
