Monte Carlo models for the production of parton showers in e+e−annihilations are described. Various prescriptions for the manner in which the outgoing partons become hadrons are examined and a new model is presented. It does not rely on the Feynman and Field parameterization but instead is based on perturbative QCD and simple phase‐space ideas.

The quark‐antiquark potential in QCD is discussed with particular emphasis on the related &bgr;‐function. The empirical information about the potential at intermediate distances, due to the &PSgr;‐ and &Ugr;‐spectroscopies, is reviewed. Finally we examine the quantitative connection between the &zgr;‐spectroscopy, formed by the anticipated t‐quark and its antiquark, and the short distance behavior of the quark‐antiquark potential.

We calculate the lowest order QCD corrections to single lepton inclusive distribution in the process hadron‐hadron → Z0, &ggr; or W± → l±anything. Numerical analysis for p¯p collisions at &sqrt;s+540 GeV shows the QCD processes to be the dominating production mechanism at kT≳M/2 and to give a very important correction to the parton model result at and below kT=M/2.

The QCD O(&agr;2s) corrections to large‐pTreal photon production from scattering in the quark‐gluon channel are studied in the soft gluon limit. In this limit we carefully preserve the analytic structure of amplitudes in the small momenta integration regions. The result is a rather large constant correction to the Born term, or K factor, which significantly improves the agreement with data on p+p → &ggr;+X. The relevance of large corrections in other processes is discussed and the dominant terms of the 0(&agr;2s) corrections to e+e− → 3 jets are reproduced.

The predictions of two QCD based models for inelastic J/&psgr; photoproduction are compared. The models differ basically in the manner in which color is treated at the perturbative level. While the two models give similar predictions for various momentum distributions they differ markedly in their predictions for the linearly polarized photon asymmetry.

An overview is presented of the attributes of gluons, deducible from experimental data. Particular attention is given to the photon‐gluon fusion model of charm leptoproduction. The agreement with QCD and theoretical prejudice is qualitatively good.

We present results of a calculation of &ggr;N → (J/&psgr;)X based on the QCD subprocess &ggr;g → (J/&psgr;)g and wavefunction normalization techniques. The absolute normalization as well as the z and pTdependences of Ed&sgr;/d3p are predicted in the inelastic region, z≤0.9, and compared with recent data.

A solution to the problem of the identification of an arbitrary number of jets in high energy collisions is reviewed.1Some of the applications of this solution to the study of the Electroweak Interactions are illustrated through two examples: The detection and analysis of top quarks, and the detection of charged Higgs or Pseudo Goldstone bosons, in e+e−reactions. Although these two examples involve e+e−initial states, the jet identification method described in this paper could be used in the analysis of any reaction involving jets.
