摘要:
A system simulator has been implemented to aid the development of the RHIC position monitor system. Based on the Lab VIEW software package by National Instruments, this simulator allows engineers and technicians to interactively explore the parameter space of a system during the design phase. Adjustable parameters are divided into three categories: beam, pickup, and electronics. The simulator uses these parameters in simple formulas to produce results in both time‐domain and frequency‐domain. During the prototyping phase, these simulated results can be compared to test data acquired with the same software package The RHIC position monitor system is presented as an example, but the software is applicable to several other systems as well.

摘要:
An interface from the graphical programming language LabVIEW to the Fermilab control system has been created according to the Accelerator Controls NETwork (Acnet) protocol. Using LabVIEW’s signal processing capabilities in combination with the VXI crate, a powerful and user‐friendly instrumentation platform is made accessible. The interface functions run on a token ring card independent of LabVIEW. The interface provides for readbacks, periodic or single, and settings of variables. LabVIEW is augmented with routines that read or set variables and register them with interface functions. Customizing the interface to different applications is accomplished completely in LabVIEW to preserve user‐friendliness. Statistics about the interface activity are available during application execution. The interface has been successfully applied to several demonstration programs as well as to an actual application.

摘要:
A new system for measuring the betatron tune of the Fermilab Tevatron has been designed and tested. An unconventional phase‐locked loop using analog adaptive filters is used to lock to the betatron oscillation harmonic. The resulting tracking filters have narrow measurement bandwidth, and high quality factor, while maintaining a wide tracking range. Interfering signals can also be tracked and filtered out. The higher signal to noise ratio makes a significant improvement in the tune measurement accuracy. Shown are measurements and comparisons to the existing conventional phase‐locked loop systems.
